WASHINGTON, DC: Former UN ambassador Nikki Haley riled up social media after she attempted to avoid a question on whether Donald Trump was a 'good candidate' to run for the White House even after endorsing the GOP nominee, on Friday, September 6.

Haley, who ran as a Republican candidate herself before suspending her campaign in March, made the comments while speaking with CBS News host Margaret Brennan for the upcoming Sunday's episode of 'Face the Nation.'

While Haley had promoted herself as a serious challenger to Trump during the days of her campaign, she later endorsed the former president and spoke in favor of reelecting him at the Republican National Convention in July.

Former President Trump reportedly criticized writer E Jean Carroll and other women who have accused him of sexual misconduct on Friday, after he appeared in front of a federal appeals court to try and overturn a $5 million judgment finding him liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll.

When Brennan asked Haley about the kind of message Trump was sending female voters in the US through his conduct, the latter replied, "Well, I think the focus for me is on policy."

The host pointed out that Trump was the GOP nominee, leading Haley to share, "And I've always said, 'Look, if I thought Biden or Trump were great candidates, I wouldn't have run for president.' I ran because I thought I could do a better job."

"You don't think he's a good candidate?" asked Brennan, in turn.

"I think he is the Republican nominee," Haley stated. "And I think putting him against Kamala Harris, who is the Democrat nominee — for me, it's not a question. Now, do I agree with his style, do I agree with his approach, do I agree with his communications? No."

Later in the interview, she added that she was "on standby" to help the GOP nominee in his campaign.

Internet slams Haley as 'spineless'

Netizens reacting to Haley's comments on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) trolled her for failing to take a strong stand on Trump's nomination. The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent takes.

"She is holding on to hope because she wants a cabinet position if he wins. She is gonna ride her hypocritical wave until a winner is announced in Nov," wrote a user.

"Spineless shill. Liz has a spine of steel and the morals of a saint. Nikki, you blew it," stated another, drawing comparison to Liz Cheney, who vocally opposes Trump.

"Wow. That’s quite the endorsement. 🤣", mocked a third.

"We can always count on Nikki to put career over country," jibed a fourth user.

"She is spineless," echoed a fifth.

"Nikki Haley will say whatever the moment requires," quipped a fifth.
