'No matter the humiliating terms': Dem senator says ending Iran war is good, even if a 'surrender'

WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Senator Chris Murphy reacted strongly to the Iran-US agreement announcement, describing it as a “surrender” to Iran while simultaneously arguing that the decision to end the costly and damaging war was right.

The US announced that it had digitally signed a tentative Memorandum of Understanding with Iran to extend the current ceasefire for the next 60 days to discuss the terms of the final deal.

He came up with a lengthy post to explain why he was glad about the Iran deal, which he alleged was, in effect, a “surrender.” Murphy contended that continued fighting would have weakened the United States economically and strategically.

“We should be glad about it, because every day this insane, illegal war continues, we get weaker,” Murphy wrote on X.

He argued that the war was misguided from the start, failed to achieve its goals, and should be stopped even if the final agreement largely benefits Iran.

Chris Murphy says US goals remain unmet

“An end to this disastrous war is a good thing – no matter the humiliating terms. Because every day it continues, our nation gets weaker, costs keep going up, Iran gets stronger, and Trump gets further from accomplishing his goals,” Murphy wrote.

He further added that the deal essentially favored Iran as they got almost everything while giving a little, with only the clear concession of reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Murphy also stated that none of the administration's key goals were met.

“Hardliners remain in charge. And, having survived America’s best shot and shown they can close the Strait, they are stronger than before the war. Iran still has its missiles, drones and nuclear program,” he added.

He continued, “It does not appear that Iran has made any concessions on their nuclear program except reiterating the promise to never build a weapon that was in Obama’s JCPOA.”

While concluding, he argued that Iran is stronger than before as they took the US’s best shot and survived.
