Jimmy Kimmel's wife Molly confesses she wasn't happy with TV host name-dropping Trump

At the Academy Awards held on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, host Kimmel didn't hesitate to jab at former President Trump. During the event, Kimmel quipped, "Isn’t it past your jail time?" about Trump.

Trump previously had called out Kimmel on his Truth Social platform, criticizing the TV host as the worst Oscars host and suggesting that the Academy should replace him with someone better. Trump even went as far as to claim that the Oscars 2024 were rigged.

As per the New York Post, Molly, Kimmel's wife and co-executive producer of the telecast expressed her disapproval of her husband mentioning Trump at the Oscars. She told Variety, "I’m really not proud of this, but I tried to talk Jimmy out of reading that. I feel like my instincts are usually right, but I was totally off on that. I said, please don’t read this."

When Kimmel questioned Molly about her dissatisfaction with the name-dropping, Molly emphasized, "I don’t want to give Trump airtime in the Oscars. This is the one time we don’t have to talk about him. We talk about him every night, this night is not about him and it’s not about politics."

McNearney thought about "the risks" of mentioning Trump during the broadcast. She believed the show was going smoothly and didn't want to finish it in a negative tone, as she explained to Variety.
