WASHINGTON, DC: House of Representative Speaker Mike Johnson boasted about the unity within the current Republican Party while celebrating record-breaking fundraising numbers in an election year, reported Fox News.

According to the publication, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) which functions as the campaign arm of the House GOP, announced raising $37 million in the second quarter of 2024, its highest-ever election year total for that period. The general election is set to be held in November. The NRCC also bested its record for June, hauling in $14.3 million this year.

Mike Johnson's statement on fundraising success

"This week, House Democrats voted to let illegal aliens vote in American elections, voted against protecting girls' sports, and fell further into disarray following their role in the greatest political cover-up in history when it comes to President Biden's fitness for office," Johnson told Fox News on Friday, July 12. "At the same time, House Republicans passed commonsense legislation and put up record-setting fundraising numbers to grow our majority," he added.

"As Republicans head to Milwaukee to nominate President Trump, our party has never been more united, energized, and equipped with the resources needed to win up and down the ballot," he added.

The numbers helped speaker Johnson push back against speculations over whether he could meet the fundraising capabilities of his predecessor Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif).

Johnson brought in $23.5 million in the second quarter of 2024. Combined with the NRCC's total and the $46.4 million raised by the House GOP leadership-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund, the House GOP added over $100 million to their war chest in this period.

The announcement of the haul comes days ahead of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Wisconsin, where former President Donald Trump is set to be declared as the official nominee of the party for the 2024 general election.

The campaign arm of House Democrats, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), has hit back at Johnson's statement, claiming, "The DCCC has consistently outraised the NRCC this cycle because we have authentic candidates with real records of results, while extreme Republicans simply sow chaos – pushing to ban abortion nationwide and raise taxes on the middle class. This reality is why polling consistently shows Democrats outrunning their Republican opponents across the battleground."

Internet refuses to believe in GOP unity and Mike Johnson's claims

Internet users did not buy into Mike Johnson's claim of a united Republican Party, as the comments on the Fox News website demonstrate. One person called the statement 'hysterical,' while another simply refused to trust the speaker.

"Sorry Mike, but the GOP is NOT united! Need I remind you of the vote to fine Garland that just failed because GOP RINOs refused to 'unite' for holding the executive branch's feet to the fire?" wrote a person.

"Unity? That's hysterical. How many votes did it take to make you Speaker? How many recall threats have there been already?" expressed another.

"Nobody trusts Mike. I'm sorry but it's true," stated a third.

"Truly hilarious stuff," jibed a fourth. "Talks of GOP unity while many members denigrate and call others RINOs, and call for votes in regards to the ousting of Johnson himself."

"GOP Unity? OMG. They are still in infighting training!" quipped a fifth.
