WHITE BEAR LAKE, MINNESOTA: Authorities have shared an update on the devastating house fire that killed Jessi Pierce and her three young children, offering some early clarity while the investigation continues.
The fire, which broke out early Saturday, March 21, morning, has left the local community and the wider hockey world in shock as details slowly emerge.

Officials say no sign fire was set intentionally
In a statement released Monday, March 23, the White Bear Lake Fire Department said initial findings do not point to foul play.
According to the department, the cause of the fire at the family’s home on Richard Avenue is still under investigation, but “preliminary findings have not led to any evidence that the fire was set intentionally.”
The department emphasized that its focus remains on both the investigation and supporting those affected.
“Our priorities are, first and foremost, being present for those directly affected by this tragedy, conducting a thorough investigation, and ensuring our first responders involved in this incident heal alongside the community,” officials said.
Tragic loss of Jessi Pierce and her three children
Pierce, 37 - whose legal name was Jessi Hinrichs - died in the fire along with her children Hudson, 8, Cayden, 6, and Avery, 4, as well as the family dog.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at 5:26 am on Saturday, but the blaze had already caused catastrophic damage.
The scale of the loss has been deeply felt, not just by those who knew the family personally, but also across the broader sports community where Pierce had built a strong presence.
Husband was away as community rallied around family
At the time of the fire, Pierce’s husband, Mike Hinrichs, was reportedly out of town on a work trip.
In the days since, support for him has grown rapidly. A GoFundMe set up to help him cope with the unimaginable loss saw donations climb quickly.
By Monday morning, the fundraiser had already crossed $80,000, and by the evening, it had surged to $146,000 - a reflection of how many people had been moved by the tragedy.

Pierce was widely known as a Minnesota Wild reporter for NHL.com and a familiar voice on Twin Cities radio, especially on sports talk station Skor North.
