LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer Oliver Tree's ex-girlfriend Melanie Martinez shared a heartfelt tribute after the 32-year-old singer was killed in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Posting on social media, Martinez wrote, “Been an absolute wreck today. It's really hard to understand how someone who you once shared such a specific and formative time of your life with can all of a sudden be gone.”
The pair dated from 2019 to 2021 before ending their romantic relationship, though they remained on good terms and maintained a friendship in the years that followed. Tree was in Brazil for a tour when he was killed after two helicopters collided in Rio de Janeiro.

Tree was in South America as part of his ambitious "The World's First World Tour," a concert series that was scheduled to take him to 30 countries across all seven continents. The singer had recently completed a performance in São Paulo, Brazil, and was due to continue the tour with a stop in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 13.
Oliver Tree killed after mid-air helicopter collision in Brazil
The 32-year-old singer was traveling aboard one of two helicopters that collided in mid-air. According to authorities, both aircraft plunged to the ground after the impact, as per CNN Brazil.
Tree's helicopter reportedly crashed into an electric vehicle dealership, sparking a major fire that engulfed numerous cars. Images from the scene showed the wreckage of the helicopters scattered across the lot, with several vehicles left crushed and burned.
CNN Brasil reported that the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) was dispatched to the scene, where investigators began collecting evidence, documenting the damage, and preserving material that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.
