Olivia Munn launches ‘worst club with the best members’ to open up about breast cancer

Olivia Munn says stories from fellow survivors gave her hope as she creates an Instagram series to answer questions about her experience

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Olivia Munn does not want other breast cancer patients to suffer in silence as she has launched an Instagram series to talk about the disease and answer questions related to it.

The ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ star revealed two years ago that she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, resulting in five surgeries, including a double mastectomy in May 2023.

Munn who is now doing well, shared an Instagram post on Wednesday, August 12, where she wrote, “Welcome to the worst club with the best members.”

She further mentioned that “the sisterhood I’ve found of women who have battled/are currently battling the same fight are the most incredible, generous, supportive people I’ve ever met.”

“I’ve spoken a lot publicly about every step I’ve taken on this path and I still get lots of questions. I hope making this series live on my page will help anyone going through this and also anyone who knows someone going through this,” the 46-year-old actress added.

Olivia Munn says hearing other women's stories gave her hope

In the accompanying video, Munn said that she’s been “wanting to answer everyone’s questions about my breast cancer journey for quite a bit of time now … I’ve just been waiting for like, when’s the right time? Like, when do I like not look exhausted?”

The mother of two also noted on the social media video that sharing her own journey “is going to be helpful for someone out there” because she also felt at ease after finding women talking about their struggles online.

“It just gave me just a little bit more hope that things would be okay,” the ‘The Newsroom’ actress stated.

Olivia Munn says every day is different with cancer

Elsewhere in the long video, Munn revealed that “today, I’m doing really good,” but also mentioned, “Most people who are going through any type of cancer can tell you that every day is different. And sometimes you feel like you’re really on an upswing, and then there are other times when you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so difficult. How is this still so hard?’”

The wife of comedian John Mulaney went on to talk about medications, which she called “very difficult.”

“It’s the stuff we have to do after the big hurdles that are kind of like, there’s big hurdles, and there’s long hurdles, and I’m in the long hurdle right now,” Munn added.
