Ben Affleck's one demand from Jennifer Lopez before marriage revealed amid split rumors
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Months before there were reports that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were having a difficult marriage, the 'Air' actor acknowledged that he had compromised in their relationship.
A Prime Video documentary, 'The Greatest Love Story Never Told', now revealed that Affleck made one demand of Lopez when they resumed their relationship, amidst reports that the couple is having trouble in their marriage.
Ben Affleck did not want their relationship to be publicized on social media
In Lopez's documentary 'The Greatest Love Story Never Told', Affleck reflected on the compromises he had to make to ensure that the couple would not experience the same challenges they encountered when they were first engaged in the early 2000s.
According to Affleck, he refused to have their relationship publicly disclosed on social media. In the movie, he remarked, "Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media'."
"Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like you’re going to marry a boat captain and (you’re like), ‘Well, I don’t like the water'," he added, per the New York Post.
Lopez, 54, and Affleck, 51, were initially together from 2002 to 2004. After calling it quits on their engagement in 2004, they married and had children with Marc Anthony and Jennifer Garner, respectively.
After reigniting their romance in 2021, Affleck and Lopez got married in 2022, with a blended family consisting of five children.
Garner, 52, and Affleck share Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, while Lopez is the mother of twins Emme and Max, 16, with her ex-husband Anthony.
Lopez has shared a lot of content about Affleck on social media, including pictures of the couple hugging or kissing while on vacation. However, there are now rumors that their marriage might be in trouble.
Ben Affleck previously revealed his and Jennifer Lopez's 'different approaches' to their relationship
The 'Argo' star stated in the February 2024 Amazon Prime Video feature, "When Jen and I broke up before, the catalyst for that was the amount of scrutiny around our private life. I had a very firm sense of boundaries, initially, around the press."
When the couple resumed their romance in 2021, the Oscar winner, who had blamed the media for the couple's 2004 wedding cancellation, asked Lopez whether they could manage the spotlight differently.
In another segment of the documentary, Affleck revealed that although he was initially hesitant to star in Lopez's fictitious companion movie, 'This Is Me...Now: A Love Story, he was eventually happy to do so.
He remarked, "I don't really love being in the making-of documentary about my personal life, which is why I’m so relieved," per Page Six.
"It seems like I might be in this [movie], but I’m not really. … I was worried for no reason. The movie wasn’t about me. It was about the ability to love yourself. And that love story is a lot f**king harder to find than Prince Charming," he added.
Affleck's on-camera confession came to light again this week following rumors that he and Lopez are divorcing.
The pop singer and actor are alleged to have been living separately, and she recently gave rise to split rumors by "liking" an Instagram post that listed the characteristics of a toxic relationship.
Moreover, Affleck did not attend the 2024 Met Gala earlier this month alongside Lopez, who is a co-chair of the event. According to a close acquaintance of the couple, they are "having issues in their marriage."
