Outrage after Dr Phil claims Diddy could walk free due to his defense's 'absurd argument' during trial

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Dr Phil McGraw has ignited outrage online after he reportedly claimed Sean 'Diddy' Combs could not be proven guilty because of a hidden stunt pulled by his defence team in the trial against him.
The trial against the controversial rapper began on May 12 in Manhattan, New York, with a jury, consisting of eight men and four women from 30 years of age to 75 years.
Some of them are White, some are Black, while some belonged to the Hispanic and Asian backgrounds.

Dr Phil says jurors with ‘strong self-image’ may side with Diddy
The TV personality citing his own experience as “a consultant for trial attorneys,” wrote for the Daily Mail that he’s not sure how the jurors will “react to some of the most shocking and salacious evidence in this case?”
But he noted that “some jurors – regardless of their life experiences – may be more open than others to considering the defense team's framing of the alleged attack.”
McGraw then went on to mention about “strong self-image”, also called an “internal locus of control”, in some people.
He believes Combs’ team might target jurors who possess this type of behavior.
“These are people who believe that they have control over events in their lives. For example, the person who does poorly on a test and says, 'I performed poorly because I wasn't prepared' likely exhibits an 'internal locus of control,’” the TV personality stated.

He further said that these kinds of people “would be most likely to believe that if someone lived through a deeply unpleasant or even traumatic event, then it was likely - at least in part - their own fault.”
McGraw, however, pointed out that it's not like victim blaming, “but in extreme situations it can appear close to it.”
Diddy’s team blamed victims for the assault

The 74-year-old then went on to write how the record producer’s legal team's “opening statement suggests this approach.”
During the trial on Monday, defense lawyer Teny Geragos reportedly told the court, “These adult, capable women will have to take on the same level of responsibility (as Combs). When any person makes an adult choice, that is a free choice.”
“A free choice has pros, it has cons. They made free choices every single day for years,” she asserted.
Referring to the lawyer’s statement, McGraw said, “That argument may seem absurd to you or me, but we're not the ones who will decide on Combs's guilt or innocence. And, what's more, the defense team does not need to convince all 12 jurors.”
He claimed that Combs’ team needs just one jury member in their favor, so that the court could not reach the guilty verdict.

“When a jury cannot reach a unanimous verdict, it is called a hung jury and the prosecution is left with two choices: re-try the case or abandon it. If prosecutors retry the case, the defense will know their evidence, giving them a significant advantage, allowing them to prepare even better the second time around,” the 74-year-old added.
