WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump's campaign sent out an email blast to potential donors shortly after the second assassination attempt against him on Sunday, September 15.

As per law enforcement, Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old from Hawaii, was arrested for allegedly planning to attack the former president while he was playing the fifth hole at his Florida golf club at around 1.30 pm ET.

Secret Service reportedly spotted him in the bushes outside the fences, armed with a scoped AK-47-style rifle, and immediately opened fire.

Though Routh managed to escape the scene, he was spotted getting into his car by an observer. He was detained and identified as the suspect while traveling north on I-95 toward Martin County.

The incident marked the second attempt at Trump's life in a span of about two months. He was grazed by a bullet, fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks, while speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, back in July.

Donald Trump's email blast to potential donors in aftermath of second assassination attempt

Donald Trump's potential donors were sent an "Alert from Trump" email from Donald Trump's campaign within a few hours of the second assassination attempt, as per the Daily Beast

It read, "There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down.”

The message on the fundraiser platform in the aftermath of the incident read, "ALERT: I am Donald J Trump. FEAR NOT! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God! But, there are people in this world who will do whatever it takes to stop us. I will not stop fighting for you. I will Never Surrender!"

Trump is reportedly lagging behind his Democratic rival Kamala Harris in terms of funds raised, and Sunday's incident provided the GOP a newfound cause to make a final sprint in support of their nominee ahead of the November election.

Internet turns cynical as Donald Trump rushes to fundraise off second assassination attempt

Netizens weren't keen on Donald Trump's move of leveraging the second assassination attempt to raise funds for his White House run. The following comments from Reddit demonstrate the internet's takes.

One wrote, "Yeahhhhh now this is smelling like it was staged," and another said, "Of course he is. I already mailed a check for thoughts and prayers."

"Time to donate to gun control PACs. You know.. in support of Trump's safety," expressed a person. Someone else stated, "Annnnnnnd it becomes crystal clear. The campaign is in free fall, and trying to capture some goodwill sympathy and money from the last assassination attempt."

"Staged? Not staged? Who cares. Both could be true, but no one is looking into it because everything Trump does is phony and self serving," remarked an individual.
