NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Sunny Hostin triggered outrage over social media for putting the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot at par with the Holocaust and slavery on the Monday episode of 'The View.'

The co-hosts discussed the subject on the fourth anniversary of the event, where Donald Trump's MAGA supporters stormed Capitol Hill and disrupted the election certification proceedings of then-president-elect Joe Biden.

Sunny Hostin and her co-hosts' take on January 6

Sunny Hostin, along with her co-hosts believe people need to commemorate January 6 so that they may never forget the "atrocity" that it was in the history of the United States.

"You don’t move on, because January 6th was an atrocity. It was one of the worst moments in American history," stated Hostin. "And when you think about the worst moments in American history, you know, like World War II, things that happened, you know, like the Holocaust, chattel slavery. We need to never forget because past becomes prologue if you forget and erase."

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former aide of President-elect Trump turned vocal critic of January 6 and MAGA, pointed out that Democrats are to shoulder some of the blame for Trump being reinstated to the White House this year.

"Yes, democracy matters, but if you can’t pay your bills, it’s hard to care about something as nebulous as democracy," she claimed. "I think that the warning signs were there, and I say this with due respect to Joe Biden... people were saying we have concern about your age. He waited until August and then gave Kamala Harris this runway to run for president. All the warning signs were there."

"This was Democrats, they had the chance to stop Donald Trump from being inaugurated and here we are, but I hope the whitewashing of January 6th ends," she continued. "It wasn’t right and it never will be, no matter how much people lie about it. This was avoidable in my book."

According to co-host Sara Haines, the insurrection of January 6 should be commemorated every year.

"The important thing is to commemorate it every year in a way, not to compare it to 9/11 because, again, it’s not an equivalent, but there are people alive today, including my niece, who didn’t know 9/11. So when you talk to anyone that was alive during that time, you have a visceral fear response that takes you back there," she pointed out.

Internet says Sunny Hostin went 'too far' with her comparison

Netizens reacting to Sunny Hostin's statement on the social media platform X were furious with her and the show in general and demanded that it be taken off air. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

"Sunny Hostin needs to be fired immediately. This is too far. Even for The View," wrote a user.

"Change name from 'The View' to 'The Asylum,'" jibed another.

"This show is and continues to be one of the greatest atrocities ever committed against humanity," stated a third.

"How is this show still on the air?" asked a fourth.

"I seriously wish someone would sue her into oblivion," slammed a fifth.

"If this was parody it'd be hilarious. But it's real and that is just sad," noted yet another.

"Another year, another insane clip from The View," quipped a seventh.
