NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts got into a scuffle with two fans of the New York Yankees during the first inning of Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday, October 29, reported NBC News.

The incident took place when Betts attempted to catch a foul ball above the fence in right field of the Yankee Stadium, hit by Gleyber Torres.

After Betts managed to secure the ball, one Yankee fan held his arm, while another attempted to pry it loose. However, their effort was not rewarded as the umpire ruled Torres out from fan interference.

The two men, one of whom was identified by the Daily Mail as 38-year-old season ticket holder Austin Capobianco, were escorted outside the stadium by security.

Mookie Betts' statement following the incident

The game ultimately ended in an 11-4 victory for the Yankees, following which Betts claimed that the incident was "irrelevant."

"It doesn't matter. We lost. It's irrelevant," said the 32-year-old, who was reportedly involved in a similar incident back in 2018. "I'm fine, he's fine. Everything's cool. We lost the game, that's what I'm kind of focused on."

However, his teammates held a different view.

Dodgers pitcher Ben Casparius shared, "I’ve never seen anything like it. It was obviously very early in the game so I think it kind of set the tone.”

"The guy was trying to yank his glove off and pulled on his wrist and it looked like he got ejected, which I'm glad he did. That was unacceptable for a fan," stated Tommy Edman.

Internet slams Yankees fans for their behavior

Social media users took to X to slam the two Yankees fans for their attempt to interfere in the game and for physically heckling Mookie Betts.

"That’s awful fan behavior," wrote a social media user.

"As a Yankees fan, those two fans need to be arrested and banned for life from the stadium. Apologies to all the Dodger fans and fans in baseball in general. Fans should never touch a player. Ever," expressed another.

"Grabbing his wrists and forcing the glove open is insane," commented one person.

"He should be banned and charged with assault," demanded another.

"What a POS. Yankee fans are degenerates," one individual remarked.

"Those Yankees fans are desperate," another added.
