'Overturn this': Belgium stars do Donald Trump dance after 4-1 World Cup rout of USA
WASHINGTON, DC: Belgium players broke into a dance widely associated with President Donald Trump after scoring their fourth goal against the United States in a dominant 4-1 FIFA World Cup round of 16 victory on Monday. The celebration came just days after controversy erupted over Trump's reported intervention with FIFA regarding a red card decision involving US striker Folarin Balogun.
The 90th-minute celebration quickly became one of the tournament's most talked-about moments, with Belgian players mimicking the distinctive swaying arm movement Trump performs at his campaign rallies. The gesture also followed Belgium's unsuccessful appeal against FIFA's decision to overturn Balogun's suspension before the knockout clash.

The message was aimed squarely at FIFA's decision to rescind a red card issued to US striker Folarin Balogun and allow him to play against Belgium despite a suspension that FIFA's rules would normally have required.
Balogun, the US men's national team's leading scorer, had been shown a red card in the Americans' round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina after a VAR review upgraded a non-call to a sending-off offense.
Many observers, including Trump himself, argued the red card was unjust, saying Balogun appeared to make a genuine attempt to play the ball with no evident intent to injure.
On Monday, Trump confirmed he had called FIFA to request a review of the decision, saying it was unfair. FIFA president Gianni Infantino also acknowledged the call but insisted the decision to overturn the red card was made independently of any presidential influence.
Trump on Balogun: "I saw the play, and I'm a person that loves sports ... that wasn't a foul. That wasn't even an infraction ... this referee, who is a little bit suspect if you check his past. He made a call that nobody could believe ... he's our best player, or one of our best… pic.twitter.com/YfIqb1JA4u

Belgium filed an appeal against the reinstatement and lost before delivering a commanding performance to eliminate the United States.

Trump confirmed what had been reported earlier: that he contacted FIFA to discuss the red card and request a review because he believed the decision was unfair.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino also confirmed receiving Trump's call but maintained that the governing body reached its decision independently.

Belgium, however, appeared unconvinced by FIFA's explanation. After scoring its fourth goal, several players celebrated with a dance that closely resembled one Trump frequently performs at his rallies.
While Balogun was cleared to play in Monday's match, Belgium ultimately had the final say by securing a convincing 4-1 victory and advancing to a quarterfinal meeting with Spain.
