KANSAS CITY, KANAS: Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes has addressed rumors surrounding Travis Kelce's possible retirement ahead of the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.

Travis Kelce, who has been a key player for the Chiefs, is rumored to be considering hanging up his cleats after 12 successful NFL seasons.

During the interview, Mahomes, 29, said he has no indication from Kelce, 35, about his retirement plans.

“I have no idea. He hasn’t said anything to me if he’s thinking that,” Mahomes said during the discussion on Tuesday, January 21, Page Six reported

Mahomes referred to the two-year, $34.25 million extension Kelce signed with the Chiefs in April 2024.

“I know he signed a two-year extension before the season; it seems like he still loves football. But he also has a great life, as well,” said Mahomes.

Travis Kelce reflects on his NFL career

Regardless of Travis Kelce's decision, Patrick Mahomes highlighted his gratitude for playing alongside him.

“Either way, I just appreciate every time I step onto the field with that guy knowing that he’s a true legend of not only the Chiefs, but of the NFL,” Mahomes said.

Travis Kelce has been candid about his future in football. Last week, he told Stephen A Smith that he has been contemplating retirement after 12 years in the league.

"It changes every single day. I love everything that I’m doing in this building, but at the end of the day, I’m not having that extreme success on the field as I have individually," Kelce said during January 15 interview.

He added, “I’ll reevaluate it like I always do, and I’ll probably tell myself how much I love this thing and I’ll come back next year.”

Kelce’s growing success off the field, including acting, hosting, and his much-publicized relationship with Taylor Swift, has fueled the speculation around his retirement.

Patrick Mahomes shares his resolve for their upcoming game against Buffalo Bills

Patrick Mahomes shared his resolve for the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills, regardless of Kelce’s decision.

“If it is his last game, let’s go out there and get him a win. If it’s not his last game, let’s go out and get him a win anyway,” Mahomes said.
