KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Patrick Mahomes has clinched the title of Best Athlete in Men's Sports at the 2024 ESPY Awards. Despite his absence at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where the awards ceremony was held, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid proudly accepted the award on Mahomes' behalf.
"I am honored to be here to pick up this award for Patrick," Reid shared, emphasizing, “I’ve been around this kid for two years now, and to watch him grow as a football player, as a teammate, as a leader has been phenomenal.”
The coach added that Mahomes has grown as a football powerhouse and as a leader, teammate, father to Sterling Sky, 3, and son Patrick 'Bronze' Lavon III, 19 months, and husband to Brittany Mahomes. He concluded his acceptance speech by saying that while the National Football League is fortunate to have Patrick, Kansas City appreciates "all that he does" the most.

The Kansas City Chiefs were additionally nominated for the Best Team award at this year's ESPYs. During his acceptance speech for the award in 2023, Mahomes expressed gratitude to Chiefs fans for their unwavering support, declaring, "Chiefs Kingdom, I truly believe, is the best fan base in the world. We're going to do this thing again, we're going to keep this thing rolling. I appreciate all y'all."
