LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Randy Martin, the beloved grandfather of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, died on Friday, February 14.

Randi Mahomes' tribute to her father Randy Martin

Randi Mahomes expressed her grief in a heartfelt post, describing the emotional experience of holding her father’s hand as he died.

"Hard to find the words of holding my father's hand as he goes to Heaven," she wrote, assuring her followers that her father was in a better place.

Randy Martin's brave battle with health challenges

Randy Martin had been battling health challenges in recent months, entering hospice care in January 2025.

She had provided regular updates on her father's condition, sharing his joy at seeing his grandson’s success, especially his anticipation for the Super Bowl.

In her social media update on January 24, Randi wrote, "My dad is in hospice and I'm lost for words."

In September 2024, she revealed that her father had been hospitalized for an undisclosed reason, according to People.

"Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well.. his name is Randy," she wrote at the time.



 

On November 12, Randi updated that she visited him.

"Had the best day visiting my dad.. please keep him in your prayers to get stronger #blessed," she shared.

Randy Martin’s determination to witness a family milestone

Despite his declining health, Randy Martin had held on, eager to watch his grandson, Patrick Mahomes, play in the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs.

His love and pride for Patrick were evident, with Randi expressing her belief that her father was fighting to see his grandson achieve greatness.

Patrick Mahomes opens up on whether he has plans to add another Mahomes to family

During a recent press conference when reporters asked Patrick Mahomes if he and his wife Brittany Mahomes had plans to add another Mahomes to their family, the Chiefs quarterback said he is "good with three for right now."

"And we'll stick there for a while and see if we need to come back and get another one later on," he shared.

Speaking about how his two older children adjust to having a baby sister, Patrick said, "It's cool to welcome another baby girl in our family and see how our kids react to her. Having baby sissy and stuff like that — it's been a lot of fun."
