LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Travis Kelce's lackluster start to the 2024 NFL season has gone from whispers to roars across the internet, prompting quarterback Patrick Mahomes to weigh in on the situation.

So far, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has managed only eight catches for 69 yards in the first three games, and he hasn't scored a touchdown yet. 

Amid this tension, many online speculate that Kelce's performance may be affected by the so-called "Taylor Swift Effect," suggesting that he isn't playing as well or as fast as he used to.

Patrick Mahomes talks about teammate Travis Kelce's performance

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has shared his thoughts on the situation involving Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is still having trouble getting touches in Week 3.

Mahomes said after the team’s third straight win against the Atlanta Falcons, "It’s crazy because the respect factor teams have for Travis is unreal, and it’s well-deserved. We’re calling a lot of plays for Travis and it’s like two or three [defenders] are going to him."

He asserted, "That’s the great thing about him is he wants to make an impact on the game but he wants to win at the end of the day."

Mahomes added, “I’m going to do my best to keep feeding him the ball whenever he’s there, whenever he’s open. I think the more Rashee [Rice] makes plays, the more we’re able to run the football, the more we can get [Xavier] Worthy involved, I think that’s going to open Travis up more."

He concluded, "People are really emphasizing taking him away and that’s getting other guys open," reported People.

On last week's episode of his 'New Heights' podcast with brother Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce discussed how he’s learned not to stress over underwhelming performances early in the season. 

“I used to get really, really pissed off and almost lose my cool a lot of the time from not having that success knowing that I demand that out of myself and I just like to play the game to such a high level of accountability that it’s just tough for me to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that,” Kelce explained.

“For whatever reason, these past two games it hasn’t gone that way for me and that’s football, man. I’m not about to sit here and get frustrated about it,” the added.
