Patrick Mahomes reveals why he 'can't be around' Travis Kelce for more than two days
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Patrick Mahomes has revealed that spending time with teammate Travis Kelce, especially during celebrity golf outings, can be challenging.
Despite Kelce's high profile and charitable efforts, Mahomes admitted that Kelce's indulgent ways often disrupt his game.
Meanwhile, Mahomes focuses on improving his golf skills and has even set up a Par 3 hole in his backyard, where his children are eagerly joining in the fun.
Patrick Mahomes can’t be with Travis Kelce for more than 2 days
Travis Kelce, known for his charitable work and his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, might not be the best influence, according to his teammate Patrick Mahomes.
In a chat with former Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith on Sirius, Mahomes admitted he struggles to spend more than a couple of days with the All-Pro tight end, especially during their celebrity golf outings.
Mahomes said about their golf sessions, "He gets me off my game, By Day 3 I'm like, I can't be with him for more than two days."
While Mahomes didn’t go into specifics, Kelce is known for his indulgent tendencies. Although Mahomes and Kelce vacationed together this offseason with their partners, Taylor Swift and Brittany Matthews, Mahomes skipped the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship Tournament at Lake Tahoe this year.
As Mahomes explained to Smith, who he succeeded as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018, his absence was a strategic choice, as per the DailyMail.
Mahomes claimed of his golf game, "It's actually gotten pretty good – I'm not gonna lie. My goal was to take an offseason off of all the tournaments and I'm coming back next year with a vengeance."
Despite his confidence, Mahomes acknowledged he's not aiming to win the Tahoe event, which he has participated in four times, most recently finishing 62nd in 2023. However, with his $450 million contract, he’s made upgrades, including building a Par 3 hole in his backyard.
"My short game has gotten better," Mahomes said, though he admitted he’s still yet to make a hole-in-one. "It’s 130 yards. I've gotten it close. I've hit a thousand minimum golf balls and never got one in."
Mahomes’ children have also joined in on the golfing fun, although they mainly enjoy playing in the sand trap. "The bunker has become a big sand box for the kids," Mahomes said, noting his hope to turn them into serious golfers if his wife Brittany agrees.
"Tried to threaten Brittany – because she doesn't like to golf – I said, you know, one day I'm gonna take the kids and we're gonna go golf, and she said ''please do,'' Mahomes shared. The children even help him retrieve golf balls, turning them into a friendly competition.
"I've gotten smart as a dad," Mahomes said with a grin. "We get down there: 'Who gets the most golf balls?!"
Internet says ‘Travis Kelce is a good man’
After Patrick Mahomes' comments about Travis Kelce emerged, the internet has been abuzz with various opinions and perspectives.
One user wrote, “Kelce is kind of old to be hanging around Patrick. Patrick seems more mature than him too. They are only friends because they work together. When Kelce retires they will quit hanging out. A family man who is still working rarely is a good fit for 40 plus year old retired manchild with a drinking problem.”
Another shared, “You can tell a lot about a man in how he treats his mother, children, and pets. Travis is a good man.”
The third claimed, “Patrick looks untrustworthy!”
“Travis is nothing but an immature man child. I don’t know how anyone can be around him. Time to grow up.” the other wrote.
Tha last user said, “They love each other.”
