PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: During a radio show interview with Reverend Al Sharpton on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 15, President Joe Biden shared his intention to run for a second term, citing the current political climate as a driving factor.

Biden expressed his opinion that Donald Trump, his predecessor, was the most anti-democratic president in American history.

He criticized Trump's desire for revenge and characterized his rhetoric as being "off the wall."

Trump is currently leading in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination and will presumably face Biden in the upcoming November elections.

What did Joe Biden say in his radio interview with Al Sharpton?

Rev. Sharpton asked Biden on his SiriusXM show ‘Keepin’ It Real’, “What made you decide to run for reelection? What was the thing that really closed in your head saying, ‘I can’t go now. I have to do this four more years?’”

“The things that Trump is saying. Trump is saying things that are just off the wall,” the 81-year-old Commander-in-Chief remarked on Sharpton’s radio show.

Biden continued, “He's the most anti-democratic - with a small 'd' - president in American history. The things he's saying. And he means them. He's talking about he's running to get revenge on people. It's just outrageous things.”

The incumbent shared a piece of his mind on the same day that his predecessor emerged victorious in the Iowa caucus securing a comfortable 32-point lead over his immediate GOP presidential rivals in Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

The decision of President Biden to run for a second term has been subject to criticism due to his low approval ratings and concerns about his age.

At 81, Joe Biden would be 86 years old at the end of a second term.

In contrast, Donald Trump, who is 77 years old, has not faced comparable scrutiny regarding his age.

Following Monday’s landslide Iowa caucus win, certain experts have predicted that Trump may have effectively secured the Republican presidential nomination as early as March 2024, which would mark one of the earliest starts of a general election campaign, per a report by the Daily Mail.

According to the RealClearPolitics polling average of the 2024 presidential election, Trump is currently leading Biden by one point.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the President spent his time participating in a service event in Philadelphia where he helped in bagging food at a distribution center.

During his campaign trail, Biden has mainly focused on Trump and has emphasized defending democracy as the primary objective of his re-election bid.

He repeatedly stated that Trump's actions are a threat to the fundamental principles on which the country was founded.

The Biden-Harris campaign has dismissed unfavorable polling numbers at this point in the Democratic campaign, arguing that the president's record will speak for itself come November 2024.

On the other hand, Donald Trump is currently facing federal charges for his purported involvement in the insurrection that occurred on January 6th, 2021.

Furthermore, the state of Georgia has indicted him and his associates on conspiracy charges, which are linked to their efforts to overturn Joe Biden's victory in the state.

Attempting to deflect culpability, the former US president has sought to shift the focus by asserting that President Biden is "the true destroyer of democracy" for utilizing the federal government to target him politically.
