WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden issued a stark warning about the possible threat former President Donald Trump would pose to Social Security if he wins the November election.

The 81-year-old incumbent took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, March 23, to write, "Donald Trump was just one vote away from repealing the Affordable Care Act."

"Now, he's determined to try again, running to 'terminate' it—and cut Medicare and Social Security while he's at it," added Biden, promising, "I won't let it happen."

The impending financial shortfall on Social Security and Medicare has turned into a top issue ahead of the 2024 presidential election, set to be a Trump-Biden rematch.

As per the Congressional Budget Office, in 2023, Social Security's Old-Age and Survivors Insurance trust fund will run dry by 2032, and the Medicare HI trust fund will run dry by 2030.

Donald Trump's spokesperson dismisses President Joe Biden's claims

Responding to Biden's warning, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung told Newsweek, "Crooked Joe Biden's cognitive decline must be getting worse because President Trump has consistently said he will not touch Social Security and Medicare."

The GOP presumptive nominee, in a March 11 interview on CNBC's 'Squawk Box', hinted at a possible cut to entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare, saying, "There is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting and in terms of also the theft and the bad management of entitlements."

Biden soon jumped into the matter through a video message on X where he slammed his predecessor's "outrageous" remarks and pledged "over my dead body will he cut Social Security so he can give tax breaks to the super-wealthy."

However, the former president later clarified his statement in an interview with Breitbart News, promising he would "never" do anything to jeopardize the entitlement programs.

Trump, while in office, had a futile attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, which came into effect in 2010 during Barack Obama's presidency. His attempt in 2017 failed in the Senate 49-51 when the late GOP Sen John McCain voted against the bill, siding with Democrats and independents.

Internet reacts to President Joe Biden issuing a warning against Donald Trump posing a threat to Social Security

Soon after Biden posted about Social Security, netizens flocked to share their perspectives. While some slammed the president's claims, others opined the entitlement programs were beneficial to them and criticized Trump's plans.

One wrote, "It’s trash and made insurance worthless! Please stop you aren’t helping," and another noted, "Republicans are the party of destruction. They have nothing positive to offer."

"Not much affordable in America these days due to your policies. he will not cut Social Security or Medicare, you are just fear mongering like a child," opined a person.

Someone else stated, "I hope Trump’s supporters are educated enough to know that repealing the Affordable Care Act will hurt them more in the future. 25 million of his voters are indeed on welfare, and they benefit immensely from the Affordable Care Act."

"It’s gonna happen when he becomes president of the United States… his plans for health care will far exceed even Obamas horrible health care plans," claimed an individual.

One who sided with President Biden pointed out, "Donald Trump is in the wrong place. He should have ruled a banana republic. He would have changed the constitution and the law and ruled for life and to be a god worshiped by the poor people."
