Prince Harry makes Internet teary as he recalls mom Diana's death in letter to bereaved military children
LONDON, UK: Prince Harry has impressed a section of the internet after penning an emotional “letter of support to bereaved military children and young people.”
The 40-year-old prince, who serves as the Global Ambassador of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, recently wrote a heartfelt letter to the young children who lost a parent in the military, while referring to the grief he felt after losing her mother, Princess Diana, when he was just a tween.
On Thursday, November 7, the Duke of Sussex wrote his letter to the little children ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday, November 11, when Harry’s home country will pay tribute to the souls lost in war or conflict.

Prince Harry says he understands the ‘the weight of losing a parent at a young age’
In the letter dated November 7, the father-of-two wrote that he understands “perhaps more than most, the weight of losing a parent at a young age," reported Perez Hilton.
The younger son of King Charles was just 12 when his mother Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash in 1997.
Recalling the grief he felt at that time, Harry wrote, “It can be overwhelming and isolating. Yet, in the midst of that heartache, we find strength in the love and memories left behind, and I have seen how communities like yours can offer deep comfort and healing.”
However, the prince advised the young ones not to forget the important values their parents have taught them.
“I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the values that your loved ones instilled in you — courage, compassion, and a sense of purpose,” said Harry, before explaining, “These will serve as your guiding light, helping you navigate the challenges ahead.”
He also encouraged them to celebrate the bonds they would form in the challenging years, writing, “In coming together to support one another, you not only honor the memories of your loved ones but also forge bonds that can and will carry you through the toughest times.”
“The tears and laughter, the shared experiences, and the moments of joy you create together are powerful reminders that love endure,” explained the prince, who once served in the British military.
He concluded the letter by reinstating the lesson that only the young ones can take their fallen parents’ legacy forward, as he explained, “Your resilience is a testament to the legacy of your loved ones, and I have every confidence in your ability to make them proud and to shine bright in the world. All they want is for you to be happy.”
The Duke of Sussex’s heartfelt letter was received warmly by the organization's founder Nikki Scott as she praised him in a write-up on her website, “Prince Harry is completely dedicated to Scotty’s and takes his role as Global Ambassador very seriously.”
“He understands what it is like for our members to grow up without their parent, and he also knows the sacrifices made by servicemen and women,” explained Scott, before adding, “It’s become a bit of a tradition now, for The Duke to write to our members at Remembrance.”
She further mentioned, “They also received letters from him in 2022 and 2023 and it means so much to them to know he is thinking about them and their parents at this proud but difficult time.”
