Prince William shares rare candid story about 'fighting' through Kate Middleton's bedroom paperwork
LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince William has offered a rare insight into life at home withKate Middleton, revealing that her dedication to early childhood development often leaves piles of paperwork lined up in the bedroom each evening.
Speaking during an appearance on the Heart Radio Breakfast Show on Friday, May 22, the Prince of Wales discussed Middleton's commitment to work with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood and reflected on her recent solo working visit to Italy.
Prince William reveals how Kate Middleton’s work takes over evenings at home
During the interview, Prince William, spoke about Middleton’s passion for early childhood development and the work she continues to undertake through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which was launched in 2021 to raise awareness of how early childhood experiences can shape later life.
Sharing a light-hearted anecdote about their evenings at home, William said, "She's a proper pro on early years, and so most evenings I'm fighting to get past in the bedroom all the paperwork that she's got lined up ready to read."
The prince acknowledged the effort Kate puts into the initiative and explained that her recent trip to Italy had been an experience she had eagerly anticipated. Reflecting on the success of the visit, he said, "She came back buzzing."
William also spoke emotionally about his wife’s resilience and dedication, adding, "[I'm] so proud. I'm very, very proud. She has been amazing; she's been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She has been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, so I'm really glad it went really well."
Kate Middleton’s Italy visit focused on the Reggio Emilia approach
On Wednesday, May 13, Princess of Wales traveled to Italy for a two-day working visit representing the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. During the trip, she met educators, families and community leaders while learning more about the Reggio Emilia Approach.
The educational philosophy recognizes children as active participants in their own learning and encourages environments that respond to different ways of thinking and communicating.
Ahead of the visit, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said, "The Princess is very much looking forward to visiting Italy next week and seeing first-hand how the Reggio Emilia approach creates environments where nature and loving human relationships come together to support children's development."
An aide to the princess also spoke about her enthusiasm for the trip, stating, "She's looking forward to being here, she's energized, she's enthused, she's excited to see Reggio Emilia in action and meet the people here too."
He also added, "This is a global mission. She wants to look at other [early childhood] models around the world and really create a global conversation." Describing the significance of the visit he continued, "This is a huge moment for the princess. There will be many highlights of 2026, but this being her first international visit post her recovery... this is a really significant moment for her."
Following the visit, Kate shared her own reflections on Instagram, writing, "Joining the morning assembly at Scuola Salvador Allende, listening as children share what they want to explore, build, and discover together as part of the Reggio Emilia Approach."
