Queen Camilla uncomfortable with Kate Middleton taking over queen consort role over 'tense relationship'
LONDON, ENGLAND: Queen Camilla, who is adjusting to her role as queen consort, is reportedly not enthusiastic about eventually giving it up when Prince William and Kate Middleton ascend to the throne.
According to OKMagazine, a royal insider shared that Camilla “loves her responsibilities” and has always longed to be queen, so she doesn’t want to “let it go so fast.”
Camilla and Kate's tense relationship sparks speculation about future roles in royal family
The source further revealed that Camilla and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, have “always had a tense relationship.” With some insiders suggesting that Camilla’s role could be reevaluated if she were widowed, though this remains speculative.
As the royal family anticipates Prince William’s future rise to power, attention is also on Kate’s recovery following her battle with cancer. The Princess of Wales has been gradually returning to royal duties, with her first public appearance of the year being at Trooping the Colour.
According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, Kate is expected to participate in the royal Christmas concert, and there are predictions of a big family turnout, though it’s still unclear if she will be involved in the performance. Nicholl stated, “I'm not sure whether she's going to be involved in the performance at all... we’ve yet to see.”
Kate continues to be selective about her engagements as she focuses on her health, and journalist Robert Hardman explained that Kate is well aware of the future that lies ahead.
“She’s taking the time to focus on getting fit and strong again while she can and doing it on her terms,” Hardman shared. The gradual increase in her royal duties will likely include office-based engagements in the new year.
Palace manages expectations as Kate Middleton takes gradually returns to royal duties following cancer treatment
While the Palace has made it clear that there’s no rush for Kate to return to full royal duties, there is an understanding that any public appearances could lead people to believe that things are “back to normal,” which is not the case yet.
“If she did start returning to major social events, that would lead people to think things are back to normal, which isn’t the case,” Hardman noted. Therefore, the Palace is mindful in managing expectations regarding her public appearances.
In September, Kate opened up about her health in an Instagram post, revealing that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment. She spoke candidly about the challenges of her cancer journey, describing it as “incredibly tough for us as a family.”
Kate shared the emotional toll cancer took on her, noting how “life as you know it can change in an instant,” and how it forced her to confront vulnerabilities she had never considered before. The journey brought a new perspective on life, as she reflected on the unpredictable nature of the disease.
