LONDON, ENGLAND: Queen Elizabeth II was allegedly angry after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed to have received the late monarch’s permission to use her childhood nickname "Lilibet" for their newborn daughter.

According to Daily Mail, a royal aide allegedly claimed in an upcoming biography titled 'Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story' that the late queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after the Sussexes publicly claimed that the British monarch had approved their use of her name.

Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ask permission to use name?

The claim that Queen Elizabeth was furious at the moniker came two years after a palace official shared that the Queen was “never asked” her opinion on the name of Prince Harry’s second child.

After the birth of Lilibet in June 2021, BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond tweeted, “Palace source tells BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry over the use of her childhood nickname.”

Dymond continued, “Reports suggested Harry had sought permission from Queen to call newborn ‘Lilibet’; but Palace source says the Queen was ‘never asked.’”

As per royal sources who shared with Page Six, Harry did call his grandmother to discuss Lilibet’s name after the little one was born. However, another source claimed it was more like the Sussexes “informed” rather than asking for her permission.

They said, “It will have likely been a call saying that she’s arrived and we’d plan to name her after you — it’s not really something one can say no to. I doubt they asked — more likely informed.”

As the debacle first started after Lilibet’s birth on June 4, 2021, a spokesperson for the Sussexes claimed that Queen Elizabeth was the first family member the Duke had called.

The spokesperson claimed, "The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement - in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called.”

They added, "During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name," as per BBC.

Harry and Meghan announced the birth of their daughter through a statement where they wrote, “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.”

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family,” they continued.

The Sussexes explained, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

The Sussexes are proud parents to their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, born in May 2019.

'Yet another sussex lie'

The netizens were divided at the revelation. While a section of the fans could not believe the beloved monarch to be angry at her great-granddaughter getting named after her, another large section of fans called the entire seeking permission incident a "Sussex lie".

One of the social media users said, "All good & loving Grandmothers would be honored to have a great-grandchild named after them. I cannot believe QE would be such a vain & narcissistic person to unhappy or angry about the namesake."

Someone else said, "Markle grifted her own child's name from the monarch and bullied the press when they called her out."

"Well, the late Queen did say she wanted the name to never be used again after Prince Philip passed. Shame on bothh of them forgoing against her wishes and lying about it. We always knew they lied though," observed someone else.

Someone else chimed in, "Yet another sussex lie that has been outed. The list just keeps growing."

"I never accepted the story that they had permission. It is just one more treacherous act against his GM," observed another.
