Praising her late father, Rashida lovingly wrote that the late musician “made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen," according to Parade.
Rashida’s father and legendary music producer Quincy Jones died on Sunday, November 3, at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles.
‘The Secret Garden’ singer was 91 when he passed away. Speaking out for the first time after his death, Rashida shared an unseen family photo from the time when she was a baby and praised her “genius” father for his “unconditional devotion.”
“My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept “jazz hours” starting in high school and never looked back,” wrote the 48-year-old actress in her tribute.
She reminisced, “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music),” before adding, “He would never send me back to bed.”
She recalled, “He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work...there was no safer place in the world for me.”
“He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius,” the ‘Parks and Recreations’ star said about her father, before adding, “All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love. He WAS love.”
“He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen,” continued Rashida, before noting, “That’s his legacy.”
The heartbroken daughter added, “I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
She accompanied a sepia-toned old photo of herself from her childhood days where she can be seen being safely cradled in her father's arms.
Apart from Rashida, the celebrated record producer also had six other children— Jolie, Rachel, Martina, Quincy III, Kidada, and Kenya. He also married thrice — Jeri Caldwell (1957-1966), Ulla Andersson (1967-1974), and the late Peggy Lipton (1974-1990).
