Ralph Fiennes endorses Oscar-winning actor to play Voldemort in HBO's upcoming 'Harry Potter' series
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ralph Fiennes, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Voldemort in the 'Harry Potter' films, has endorsed Cillian Murphy, the recent Oscar winner for Best Actor in 'Oppenheimer', to assume the iconic role in HBO's forthcoming 'Harry Potter' series.
During the Monday, December 2, episode of 'Watch What Happens Live!', Fiennes was asked by fans about Murphy's suitability for Voldemort and he expressed his emphatic endorsement without hesitation.

Ralph Fiennes said, “Cillian is a fantastic actor. I actually think that’s a wonderful suggestion,” he told host Andy Cohen and fellow guest Stephanie Hsu. “I would be all in favor of Cillian," he added.
Richard Bremmer was the original voice of Voldemort in the first Harry Potter film, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,' released in 2001 while Christian Coulson portrayed the young version of the character in 2002's 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.'
Fiennes made his debut as Voldemort in the fourth film of the series 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', in 2005.
He remained in the role of Harry Potter's arch-nemesis for the rest of the film series, culminating in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' in 2011. In the final installment, with the support of his friends, Harry (played by Daniel Radcliffe) triumphs over Voldemort, thereby saving the wizarding world.
Cillian Murphy has a history of portraying villains, with roles in films like 'Red Eye' and 'Batman Begins.' The push for Murphy to be cast as Voldemort follows reports from Variety that Mark Rylance is favored to portray Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, a role previously filled by the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys promises deeper dive into 'Harry Potter' books with series
Casting for HBO Max's 'Harry Potter' TV series has not been announced yet, despite the series' confirmation in April 2023. Expected to debut in 2026, the series plans to allocate one season for each of the seven 'Harry Potter' novels by JK Rowling.
“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” in an April 2023 statement, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, was quoted by Deadline.
He added, “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and JK Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”
