NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former Vice President Mike Pence made it unequivocal that he would not be endorsing Donald Trump, the former president he served under.

This declaration stirred emotions in 'The View' host Alyssa Farah Griffin. Pence elaborated on his decision during an interview with Margaret Brennan on 'Face the Nation' on March 17.

'The View' highlights Pence's unresolved issues with Trump

He acknowledged forgiving Trump for his role in the events that transpired on January 6, but pointed out that there are other unresolved issues that continue to trouble him.

“The reason that I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump this year also has to do with the fact that he is walking away,” Pence explained.

“Not just from keeping faith with the constitution on that day, but also, Margaret, with a commitment to fiscal responsibility, a commitment to the sanctity of life, a commitment to American leadership in the world," he added.

During the March 18 episode of 'The View', the ABC hosts predominantly praised Pence's decision to publicly distance himself from Trump.

However, host Sunny Hostin expressed a desire for Pence to have gone further in his condemnation, especially given Pence's previous affirmation during an August debate when he raised his hand in support of Trump potentially becoming the GOP nominee.

Alyssa Farah Griffin reflects on Pence's historic decision

Alyssa Farah Griffin expressed her support for her former boss, emphasizing the significance of his decision.

She stressed that it shouldn't be underestimated, highlighting the unprecedented nature of a vice president not endorsing the president they served under.

Griffin believed, "This should’ve been front page of all news."

“Pence coming out — this is a person who’s been in the conservative movement before anyone even talked about Donald Trump in politics," Farah Griffin said.

The host then added, “There are people like me all over the country, who trust him. They think he’s a man of faith, he’s likely who brought them around to Trump in 2016."

She continued, saying, “And for him to say this, I mean, I teared up when I saw it, ’cause I said on this show, ‘Nothing will break my heart more than if Mike Pence endorses Donald Trump."

"And he didn’t, ’cause he knows better than anyone, this man is historically unfit, he’s dangerous," she added.

Ana Navarro on Pence's non-endorsement

Host Ana Navarro considered Pence's decision not to endorse Trump as an obvious and understandable choice, particularly in the light of the harrowing events surrounding the near-lynching incident.

“I think the least he could do is not endorse the guy who put him and his family in danger that day, and so many other people in the Capitol,” Navarro said.

Nevertheless, the host acknowledged the importance of publicly distancing oneself from Trump.

Even if this action only influences a handful of voters, its impact could still be significant. Additionally, the host noted the tendency for previous critics of Trump to ultimately endorse him.

Navarro said, “So I think that Mike Pence is doing something that’s much better, and I hope he’s sending a message to Republicans and independent moderates, right-siding moderates, that it’s OK not to be partisan."

Internet reacts to 'The View's recent episode on Mike Pence

In response to these current political shifts, social media users took to various platforms to voice their opinions.

One person wrote, "Not “ endorsing publicly” but will vote the Repub ticket. You need to read between the lines with these jerks."

Another said, "Pence is scared of the democrats. He's their stoolie."

"He will still vote for him," stated one viewer.

"He didn’t say he WOULD NOT vote for Trump! He said he would not “endorse” Trump. Two very different things. He didn’t answer the question," another user clarified.

"Pence is a coward. Who cares?" one user remarked.
