Reason why Brooke Mueller was questioned over her history with Matthew Perry in actor's death probe
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brooke Mueller was reportedly questioned by authorities about her history with Matthew Perry as part of the investigation, which led to the arrest of five individuals in connection with his ketamine overdose death.
Two doctors, Dr Salvador Plasencia and Dr Mark Chavez, Perry’s live-in personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, and the "Ketamine Queen of Hollywood," Jasveen Sangha, were indicted on Thursday, August 15, as per People.
Brooke Mueller and Matthew Perry reconnected a few years back in rehab
Brooke Mueller's first interaction with Matthew Perry happened 20 years before she married Charlie Sheen in 2008, according to sources. They met again a few years back in rehab.
"Brooke Mueller was questioned in this case because she was friends with Matthew Perry but she never used ketamine," revealed a source.
Iwamasa, the actor's live-in assistant admitted to giving the actor several doses of ketamine on the day of his death.
While announcing the charges, US Attorney Martin Estrada said, "These defendants cared more about profiting off of Mr Perry than caring for his well-being."
The source criticized the two doctors for overprescribing addictive drugs to someone struggling with addiction.
However, they added, "Everyone wants to put the blame on others, but it’s the addict who bought and took the drug. It’s easy to buy drugs anywhere in Los Angeles if you want or need them badly enough and you can afford it."
Mueller has been questioned many times by the legal authorities since Perry’s death in October 2023. Another source said to TMZ that the 'Cursed' actress "cooperated with authorities" and was integral in getting alleged drug dealer Erik Fleming arrested.
As per prosecutors, the "Ketamine Queen" handed 25 vials of ketamine to Fleming, who in turn distributed it to Iwamasa for Perry’s use, just four days before the actor's death due to an overdose.
Matthew Perry fell back into addiction in the fall of 2023
US Attorney Martin Estrada said investigators believe Matthew Perry "fell back into addiction" in fall 2023 while noting his vulnerability as a recovering addict, according to CNN.
The actor wrote about his decades-long struggles with addiction in his 2022 memoir, 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing'. He recalled that he began abusing prescription medication after he was prescribed Vicodin following a jet ski-related accident during the filming of 'Fools Rush In' in 1997.
Perry continued misusing drugs while working on 'Friends', sometimes taking up to 55 pills per day.
Before his death, he was reportedly undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression.
Estrada alleged that Dr Plasencia worked with Dr Chavez to supply ketamine to Perry, which the actor's live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, would inject him with despite having no medical training.
Dr Chavez "has agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine," as said by DEA Administrator Anne Milgram in a press release.
Fleming also pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death, according to the US Attorney.
Iwamasa has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death.
"Ketamine Queen," who has been slapped with nine charges, including conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution of ketamine resulting in death, has pleaded not guilty.
