LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been suspended for two games after he reportedly used a homophobic slur on a hot mic during a game against the Houston Astros.

The 27-year-old said, “Shut up you f*****g f****t,” to a heckling fan at Fenway Park.

It added, “Additionally, Duran’s salary from the two-game suspension will be donated to PFLAG (Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), the United States’ largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people and those who love them.”

Jarren Duran’s suspension came even after he apologized for his act.

He reportedly said, “During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan. I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community.”

“Our young fans are supposed to be able to look up to me as a role model, but tonight I fell far short of that responsibility,” he asserted.

Netizens share their disappointment after Jarren Duran’s suspension

People have reacted online over Jarren Duran’s suspension.

“Unless there’s a clause in his contract that prohibits him from any and all derogatory remarks towards fans, this disciplinary action is an overreach,” a Facebook user commented.

A second one commented, “If a player is getting barked at by a fan, that player should be able to bark back at them without any repercussions by the league or team..”

A third one wrote, “First Amendment rights taken right out from under him.”

A fourth user stated, “If that fan was heckling him, then he asked for it. It’s freedom of speech.”

“As many professional athletes disrespect the flag and kneel....hmmm...and no repercussions..poor fan should call mommy,” a fifth one added.

A comment read, “To all the people claiming free speech The first amendment protects you from the government, not from anything else. That’s what the constitution is supposed to do. It’s a list of things the government can’t (supposedly) do to you. Has nothing to do with the private sector.”

Another comment stated, “I guess Sticks and stones can break bones these days. I remember when people packed MSG on consecutive nights to hear Andrew Dice Clay rip people apart with insult after insult and people just laughed because words are just that…words.”
