WASHINGTON, DC: As several states of the US, including Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma deal with an ongoing measles outbreak, Robert F Kennedy Jr has seemed to suggest that “natural immunity” after getting the disease is better than getting Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Vaccination.

During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that aired on Tuesday, March 11, the US Health and Human Services Secretary said, “When you and I were kids, everybody got measles, and measles gave you lifetime protection against measles infection. The vaccine doesn’t do that,” as reported by CNN.

“The vaccine is effective for some people for life, but for many people, it wanes,” he stated.

Further stressing on his point, Kennedy Jr explained, “Some years, we have hundreds of these outbreaks. And, you know, part of that is that there are people who don’t vaccinate, but also the vaccine itself wanes. The vaccine wanes 4.5% per year.”

The 71-year-old politician also appeared to downplay maternal immunity. He said, “It does not appear to provide maternal immunity, it used to be that very young kids were protected by breast milk.”

“Women who get vaccinated do not provide that level of immunity that the natural measles infection did. So you’re now seeing measles hit very very young kids and hitting older people within whom the vaccine has waned,” Kennedy Jr added, as per the Daily Beast.

Robert F Kennedy Jr says vaccine ‘causes all the illnesses’

That was not it as Robert Kennedy Jr claimed that the vaccine “causes deaths”.

“There are adverse events from the vaccine. It does cause deaths every year. It causes all the illnesses that measles itself causes, like encephalitis and blindness, etc, so people ought to be able to make that choice for themselves,” he told Hannity.

Netizens call Robert F Kennedy Jr ‘absolute moron’

Robert F Kennedy Jr’s words angered many people online.

One X user tweeted, “You know what also happened - we had 500 measles deaths and 50,000 hospitalizations a year too.”

Another X user commented, “OMG! Ever heard of a thing called science?”

“Yeah, let’s go back to ‘used to be’ and ignore all the scientific advances of the last 50 years!” a third one shared.

An individual posted, “I got measles as a child so I have natural immunity. But I almost died. Vaccinate your children.”

Another said, “Absolute moron.”

“Real medicine --- getting measles causes lifelong damage to your immune system,” a critic tweeted.

Another critic added, “I am a primary care physician with nearly 40 years of clinical experience and have been a professor of primary care and public health at a world-leading university for over 20 years. I can't make any sense of what Robert F Kennedy Jr is saying.”
