The outlet reported on Wednesday, August 21, that Kennedy is working to finalize his decision to quickly mitigate the momentum the Democratic Party gained from the recent convention in Chicago.

The independent candidate is scheduled to address the nation on Friday, August 24, to discuss his political future and his campaign's next steps.

As per the press release from his campaign, Kennedy's speech in Phoenix will focus on “the present historical moment and his path forward."

Trump is set to host an event on Friday night in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix, fueling speculations that the two may join forces.

RFK Jr's potential alliance with Donald Trump

During an interview on the 'Impact Theory' podcast, hosted by Tom Bilyeu, Robert F Kennedy Jr's running mate Nicole Shanahan discussed their potential drop out from the election race to endorse Donald Trump.

“We are taking a very serious look at making sure that the people that have corrupted our fair and free democracy do not end up in office in November,” said the entrepreneur.

“There’s two options that we’re looking at, and one is staying in: forming [a new political party], but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris and [Harris running mate Tim] Walz presidency because we draw votes from Trump,” she noted.

“Or we walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump, and we explain to our base why we are making this decision," Shanahan said in the podcast released on Tuesday, August 20.

Donald Trump open to collaboration with RFK Jr

In a CNN interview on Tuesday, August 20, Donald Trump acknowledged the possibility of Robert F Kennedy Jr endorsing him and offered a welcoming stance.

“I didn’t know he was thinking about getting out, but if he is thinking about getting out, certainly I’d be open to it. I respect him,” said the former president.

In a phone call recording leaked in July, Trump could be heard courting RFK Jr's support, according to The Hill.

In the audio posted online, Trump said, “I would love you to do something. I think it’ll be so good for you and so big for you, and we’re going to win.”

Internet slams RFK Jr's 'opportunism' if he ends campaign to endorse Donald Trump

As RFK Jr is reportedly set to end his election campaign to endorse Donald Trump, netizens slammed the independent candidate's possible exit from the 2024 race.

One user on X wrote, "The only thing RFK Jr brought to the party was a famous name, which he is busy besmirching with his amoral opportunism." Another tweeted, "I would have to unfortunately agree. Yes the US laws are unfair to third party/independent candidates. But going out like this would be simply a huge let down."

"This just proves that RFK Jr. was in the race for all the wrong reasons. He is just desperate for a spot close to the Whitehouse," a netizen commented. Someone opined, "Good to know that's what he's gonna do with his 12 supporters."

"Not sure what he's waiting for since he's the only one who thought he was even in the race," an individual remarked. Another added, "Are all of his supporters going to vote for trump now? Should we be worried? What is that, one vote total? Yeah, I terrified."
