WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) made controversial remarks regarding the deployment of immigration authorities at airports amid an ongoing dispute over funding for national security agencies.

The comments came amid nationwide disruptions to airport security, as President Donald Trump announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be deployed to airports starting Monday, March 23, with border czar Tom Homan leading the effort.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Blumenthal wrote, "ICE agents at airports will only aggravate delays & lines—disrupting checks, interrogating travelers, dragging parents from children, detaining citizens, brutalizing families, shooting & even killing."

In a subsequent post, he further said, "Brutal, lawless tactics common in communities across the country by masked, unidentified agents, violating basic rights—no way to help TSA or travelers."

In another post, the senator remarked, "ICE agents roaming airports & ransacking travelers with violent lawless tactics—replicating practices that have appalled Americans. Unacceptable morally, legally, politically. A sickening specter."

The Democrats have repeatedly voted to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security, and on Friday, they once again blocked funding for both DHS and the Transportation Security Administration. As a result, hundreds of TSA agents have quit their jobs after missing a paycheck.

Major airports across the US are experiencing delays due to TSA staffing issues, with travelers waiting in security lines for up to five hours and missing flights. During the weekend, Trump said he would be deploying ICE agents to airports across the country to help travelers swiftly get through security lines.

“The Radical Left Democrats have hurt so many people with their vicious and uncaring ways. What they have done to the Department of Homeland Security, our fantastic TSA Officers, and, most importantly, the great people of our Country, is an absolute disgrace,” he wrote in a Truth Social post.

Trump warns Democrats 'no more games' as he pushes ICE deployment at airports

Trump also said, “If the Democrats do not allow for Just and Proper Security at our Airports, and elsewhere throughout our Country, ICE will do the job far better than ever done before! The Fascist Democrats will never protect America, but the Republicans will."

He continued, "Just like the Radical Left allowed millions of Criminals to pour into our Country through their ridiculous and dangerous Open Border Policy, the Republicans closed it all down, and we now have the Strongest Border in American History.”

The commander-in-chief concluded by saying, "Likewise, I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday, and have already told them to, 'GET READY.' NO MORE WAITING, NO MORE GAMES!”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized Trump’s deployment of federal immigration agents to airports, describing it as “disturbing” during remarks on the Senate floor and warning that such a move could worsen travel disruptions for passengers already dealing with the effects of the partial government shutdown.

He said, “ICE agents, who are untrained and have caused problems everywhere they’ve gone, lurking at our airports — that’s asking for trouble. And it will certainly make the chaos at our airports worse.”

“So I have an idea for Donald Trump: instead of sending ICE agents to harass travelers at airports, why doesn’t Trump get his act together and agree to pay TSA workers, and get Senate Republicans to do so?” Schumer suggested.
