Robert De Niro's first photo snuggling baby Gia gives rare insight into 'Raging Bull' star's family life

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Raging Bull' actor Robert De Niro, 80, seems to be having the time of his life with his 10-month-old daughter Gia Virginia Chen De Niro in a recent, adorable photo of the two.

The 'Goodfellas' star is seen holding his baby daughter in his lap and putting his cheek on her head in the recent portrait. Wearing a lovely onesie adorned with musical squirrels, his bundle of joy had a sweet smile on her face.

The 'Taxi Driver' actor revealed to PEOPLE Magazine on Wednesday, February 7, that he even noticed 'a lot of similarity' between himself and his youngest daughter when he was her age.

De Niro talked candidly about his family, including Gia, in the most recent edition of PEOPLE interview. "She’s such an adorable baby. So sweet," he remarked about the happy girl.

"[When I] look at her, everything else goes away. So it’s a great joy and relief to just be with her in the moment."

The actor also chuckled at the unusual dynamic inside his family after welcoming his seventh child with his partner Tiffany Chen, 45, in 2023.

Moreover, the 'Goodfellas' star was choosing to bask in the 'joy' that his daughter offers him, despite some critics criticizing De Niro and other elderly fathers like his pal Al Pacino for having kids at such a late age, per Daily Mail.

The other children of actor De Niro are proud older siblings: Elliot, 25, and Helen (with ex-wife Grace Hightower), twins Julian and Aaron, 28, and Raphael, 47 (with his first wife Diahnne Abbott).

He remarked about Gia, "The kids all get a big kick out of her. The grandkids even. She’s their aunt— [and] they’re about to be teenagers!" (Raphael has three young kids; Drena's only child, Leandro, died in July 2023 at the age of 19).

De Niro said of his baby girl, "Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about just goes away when I look at her. It’s wondrous."

The actor, who has always been a family man, enjoys getting together with the rest of the De Niros. "The fact that they’d all be together is everything to me," he stated. "Just being together, taking trips to warm places," he continued.

While observing a photo of himself when he was a little boy, the 'Killers of the Flower Moon' actor further told PEOPLE that he finds "a lot of similarity" between himself and his 10-month-old daughter Gia, whom he welcomed with Tiffany Chen.

The vintage picture—which shows De Niro being carried by his father, painter Robert De Niro Sr—also reminds readers of his 12-year-old daughter Helen, whom he shares with his ex-wife Grace Hightower.

The two-time Oscar winner said, "It reminds me of my two youngest little girls. I see it also in one of my grandkids."

Raised in New York City, the 'Goodfellas' icon recalled, "One thing I'd say to one of my younger kids is that there are things that I remember that [my parents, De Niro Sr. and Virginia Admiral] told me that you don't forget."

The wise dad said he tries to teach his children some of the lessons he's learned the hard way, adding, "Certain little truisms or whatever you want to call them. Little examples of life saying, ‘If you do this, this is what you do. Always do this, do that,’"

In addition to making every effort to continue being a busy father, De Niro doesn't appear to be slowing down as an actor.

With 'Killers of the Flower Moon', he reunited with Martin Scorsese, his longtime partner, and the actor was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
