'DNC would rather lose': RFK Jr mocked over desire to replace Biden as Democratic nominee after debate
WASHINGTON, DC: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr indicated he would be open to taking up President Joe Biden's spot as the Democratic presidential nominee for the 2024 election.
Following the 83-year-old incumbent's poor performance in the first debate with Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump on June 27, many urged his exit from the race.
Biden started the debate with a raspy voice and faltered multiple times, struggling to find words. This intensified the concerns about whether he would be able to carry out the presidential duties if elected for one more term.
Trump, who recently turned 78, looked more energetic during the 90-minute-long debate hosted by CNN.
RFK Jr open to replacing Joe Biden as nominee
In an interview on NewsNation, Kennedy addressed the possibility of accepting a Democratic ticket to face Trump in November.
Host Chris Cuomo inquired whether he would step into Biden's shoes as the nominee, noting the president was "in freefall" and the independent contender becoming the Democratic nominee could "really solve their problems and yours at the same time", as per Newsweek.
"Would you be open to talking to them if they reached out to you?" Cuomo asked.
"Of course I would talk to them. It would put me on the ballot with nobody trying to get me off," Kennedy answered. The environmental lawyer added that he believes the Democratic National Committee would otherwise try to disqualify him from various states nationwide.

I'm going to be on the ballot at this point in every state by mid-July, but I'm going to have the the DNC suing… pic.twitter.com/0gT1CcUr29
Before embarking on the White House race as an independent, Kennedy earlier competed against Biden in the Democratic primary race.
He was also not part of CNN's presidential debate over his failure to meet qualifications. However, the White House hopeful conducted his own version of the debate at a Los Angeles sound studio.
Even with hardly any chance to replace Biden, Kennedy would be in conflict with Democratic voters on issues of Covid-19 vaccination and abortion if such a situation arises.
Internet reacts as RFK Jr expresses keeness to replace Joe Biden as Democratic presidential nominee
A group of netizens suggested Kennedy would be a better choice, while another bunch outrightly rejected it.
"The DNC would rather lose. They can't invite Bobby in because he'll clean house and scare away all their corporate backers," a user wrote.
"Oh, the smell of entitlement. Kennedy quit the Democratic party at the end of 2023 because he couldn't get votes. Now, he thinks it should be handed to him? We have a qualified Vice President and a bull pin of real Democrats. Still #RidingWithBiden2024," another remarked.

"That would be the best option for the Democrats at this point. Can’t see anyone having a chance to take on Trump at this point," added a third user.
While, a fourth response read, "There is NO POSSIBILITY of this ever happening. NONE. This guy is off his rocker."

"I'm supporting RFK Jr. regardless of what party or parties he runs under! This would be the best play for the DNC (IMHO), but they'd have to backpedal pretty quickly on all the defamation they've been sending his way!" someone else said.
Whereas an individual quipped, "Ah yes! We'll fight Trump with our own dumber more unlikable Trump! Brilliant!"

"He's probably the only one with a chance, and he's the one guy the Dems will never put up," another added.
On the other hand, a remark read, "If RFK JR had genuine concern for Americans, our rights, our freedoms, and our future, then he would be doing exactly what Tulsi Gabbard is doing. Instead, he continues to prove that he only really cares about himself."
