DES MOINES, IOWA: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who had an unsuccessful presidential bid against Donald Trump, is reportedly planning to fundraise for the former president in Florida and Texas in the upcoming weeks, according to the Associated Press.

The news outlet cited two insider sources and reported the Republican governor's move to support Trump stemmed from the commitment he offered while both privately met in late April. This was their first time since DeSantis dropped out of the GOP primary race in January and endorsed the 45th president.

The meeting at Shell Bay Club in Miami, Florida, on April 28 was initiated by the Florida governor to "bury the hatchet" with Trump, as per a campaign official of the ex-president.

The two anonymous sources familiar with the matter told the Associated Press that details about the fundraiser are not finalized and it could still be postponed by weeks. However, DeSantis initiated contacting donors while his finance team quickly worked to plan the schedule that would encompass stops in Florida and Texas.

DeSantis' plan to raise money for Trump was in discussion for some weeks. NBC News reported in early April that the governor had expressed his intention to assist the ex-president's 2024 campaign during a private gathering with donors and supporters at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in South Florida.

DeSantis' latest move could be seen as his effort to melt the brief hostility between him and Trump and reconcile with him. Throughout the governor's primary race, the former president mocked and disparaged him with the nickname "DeSanctimonious," while the latter spewed criticisms against Trump.

"He's shown his commitment to the president, and that's why I say we'll follow his lead, and why I think donors will follow his lead," said Roy Bailey, who was a co-chairman of the ex-White House contender's national finance committee during his presidential campaign.

"We will be focused on past DeSantis donors who have yet to donate to President Trump. We're going to try to mine those donors for him. That will create a lot of value," Bailey, who did not confirm the fundraising efforts, added.

The Florida governor's decision to open up his prolific fundraising network to Trump could also indicate that he is paving the way for the 2028 White House bid when the current GOP presumptive nominee would be ineligible if he wins in the coming November.

Internet mocks Ron DeSantis for 'bending the knee'

The internet brutally trolled DeSantis for reportedly planning to raise money for his former rival's presidential campaign.

A user hilariously joked, "How did that ring taste, Ronny?" Meanwhile, another remarked, "DeSantis is planning to bend the knee."

"He just can't stop making the worst possible decisions," a third one added. A fourth response read, "Ronnie earning his knee pad points …"

Another person wrote, "What a sad little man."

"What a pathetic loser…thanks a lot Florida," someone else quipped. An individual wrote, "Ron DeSantis has zero shame/self-respect. And those are his good traits."

Another funny remark read, "May he fail in ways too epic to ignore." One person said, "Call DeSantis a magadonian dummy, because he is."

A tenth response read, "Ron Dumbsantis couldn’t even raise money for himself, much less anyone else." One user added, "For the campaign? Or for Trump, personally? I'd believe either. Hell, I'd believe it if he changed his name to Don ReSantis."

"Definition of a bootlicker = Desanctimonious," another wrote, referring to Trump's nickname for DeSantis.
