Rosie O’Donnell blasts Trump over Iran strikes, calls for impeachment citing past campaign promises
WASHINGTON, DC: Rosie O’Donnell, a long-time critic of President Donald Trump, used Instagram this week to speak out against the US military strikes that targeted Iran.
She accused Trump of failing to keep his own campaign promises and renewed calls for his impeachment.
In a post that spread quickly online, O’Donnell compared two Trump quotes from his 2024 campaign.
Two of Trump’s own quotes brought up
In the Instagram post, O’Donnell highlighted two quotes from Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign messaging: one in which he said, “If Kamala wins, only death and destruction await because she is the candidate of endless wars. I am the candidate of peace. I am peace. I’m not going to start a war, I’m going to stop wars.”
O’Donnell argued that the recent strikes on Iranian targets directly contradict those earlier promises, framing the military action as evidence that Trump has not lived up to his own words.
She also posted a photo of Trump with the word 'liar' written on it.
Foreign policy choices criticized
Her post included a hashtag calling for impeachment. It reflects ongoing criticism from liberal commentators and activists.
They argue that Trump's foreign policy has been more interventionist than he indicated before.
While O’Donnell’s remarks stand out, other figures on the left have also questioned the wisdom and legality of the strikes without congressional approval.
“The White Stripes” lead singer Jack White took to Instagram to slam Donald Trump’s track record of international conflict through his second term and mock the president's appearance during his Saturday morning statement on the strikes.
“Don’t you love seeing him declare war on a country while wearing a trucker hat that says ‘USA’ on it?” White wrote.
“Behold the leader of the ‘Board of Peace.’ For the next war announcement donny, may I suggest having your feet up on the Resolute desk while eating a Big Mac in a velvet track suit? Venezuela, Greenland, Iran, Cuba, what’s the difference right? White said.
Republican lawmakers and conservative commentators have largely rejected calls for impeachment over foreign policy decisions, arguing that the president has broad authority to act in defense of US security.
