Royal author claims Queen Elizabeth II thought Meghan Markle's wedding dress was ‘too white’ for her
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Another bombshell revelation about the UK royal family and their treatment of Meghan Markle has come to light.
GB News, citing royal author Ingrid Seward's upcoming book, 'My Mother And I', reported that the late Queen Elizabeth II was not in favor of the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding dress.
Queen Elizabeth II apparently criticized Meghan Markle’s wedding dress
The late monarch reportedly felt Meghan's Givenchy dress was "too white" for her as well as believed it was not appropriate for a divorcee to wear in a church wedding.
Not just that, the grandmother of Prince Williams and Prince Harry was also not keen about then-Prince Charles walking the Duchess of Sussex down the aisle in the absence of her father, Thomas Markle.
Besides, her husband's health was another matter of concern for the late ruler. The late Prince Philip had undergone a hip replacement operation only five weeks before the Sussexes’ May 19, 2018 wedding.
Royal author Ingrid Seward's new book spills the beans on Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles' relationship
Seward’s 'My Mother And I' will reportedly be available on stands from February 15.
As per its publisher, Simon & Schuster, the book gives a real picture "of the real relationship between King Charles III and his mother."
The synopsis reads, "This is the story of how Charles was shaped and molded by his heritage. His mother was the woman he loved but could never be close to, and it wasn't until his mother’s old age, he finally received the affection and respect from her he had craved for so long."
It adds that the book "reveals the challenges faced by Prince Charles as he remained in his mother's shadow for most of his life and offers insight into how their relationship operated behind closed doors."
Prince Philip gave a 'mean' nickname to Meghan Markle
In her book 'My Mother And I', Seward also disclosed that the late grandfather of Prince Harry had a nickname for Meghan.
Prince Philip allegedly used to refer to her as the "Duchess of Windsor," comparing her to American socialite Wallis Simpson, as per Page Six. Simpson was a divorcee who later married the former King of England, Edward VIII, who became the Duke of Windsor after disowing the throne.
Royal author Seward apparently noted, "He wasn’t simply referring to the fact that both were pencil-slim, dark-haired and glamorous American divorcees."
Similar to Simpson, Megan was also earlier married to Trevor Engelson, a movie producer, before she met Prince Harry. The two were together from 2011 to 2014.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have first met in early 2016, but they didn't go public until that October. They got engaged in November 2017 and tied the knot in May 2018.
