Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher argued over professional demands and parental duties
The two celebrities were "at odds" over their personal obligations to their families and careers, a source told Us Weekly on Saturday, April 6.
Cohen and Fisher posted a combined Instagram Story statement saying, "After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down," along with a photo from their tennis days.
"In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy and have been quietly working through this change."
"We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy," they said in closing.
Fisher and Cohen share a boy named Montgomery, 9, and two daughters, Olive, 17, and Elula, 13.
Cohen and Fisher did not elaborate on the reasons behind their split, but according to a second insider, they got into a "heated argument" at a popular A-list Hollywood hotspot.
According to the second source who spoke with the tabloid, Fisher and Cohen had "furiously argued" over parenting duties and "conflicting filming schedules".
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher's marriage fell apart after moving to Australia
Insiders have alleged that Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher were having a difficult time navigating their prenuptial agreement and determining who would get custody of their three children.
The couple had been having trouble with their "shaky" marriage for years before their discreet split in 2023.
The celebrities got engaged in 2004, three years after they first met in 2001 at a Sydney party, per Daily Mail.
According to insiders, Cohen struggled after making the "sacrifice" of moving their family to Australia back in 2020, and their marriage was said to have been "shaky" for years.
"Their marriage has been shaky for years," an insider exclusively revealed to Daily Mail. "The breakdown started when they relocated to Australia so that she could be closer to her family. But it left Sacha far removed from everyone he knows."
"He made this sacrifice for her and would make many sacrifices for her throughout their marriage. He is deeply affected by their split because she was his life for many years."
After getting married in 2010, the pair is currently figuring out what would be the "best arrangement" for their three children with Fisher currently having their custody.
"She has custody of the children and they are still working out the best arrangement so that Sacha is able to be an active part of their lives," the source said.
The source added: "They have much love for each other, but they could not get along and became different people than they were at the beginning of their relationship. They wanted different things in life in terms of their careers."
"They had a prenup but it is still very difficult because everything they owned is purchased for the two of them and their family together."
The insider stressed that neither of them was dating someone new and that adultery had no role in their marriage failing.
"Cheating was not involved on either side and neither are seeing anyone else," they concluded.
