Sam Asghari opens up on ex-wife Britney Spears' infamous dancing videos: 'She's a genius artist'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears’ former husband, Sam Asghari, has spoken about her controversial social media videos featuring her dancing with knives.

While defending her creative choices, he admitted that he would not be the one to restrict her from posting content.

Sam Asghari says Britney Spears has 'genius ideas'

Sam Asghari, who was married to Britney Spears from 2022 to 2024, called her a genius despite not agreeing with everything she does.

“I'm not someone that's ‘Let me, let me take your phone from you and not allow you to do anything and restrict you from posting your own content,’" Asghari said.

“And, and especially if you're an artist, I think, you know, we're talking about she's a genius artist. What's in her head is gold, and it's what made her who she is,” Asghari said.

“So when you take away the ability to, you know, make art express yourself, I'm not gonna be the one that's gonna stop anybody from posting whatever they want,” Asghari said, adding “especially if dance is the way you express yourself," according to People. 

Sam Asghari reflects on Britney Spears’ conservatorship

Britney Spears was under a conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, for 13 years before it was terminated in 2021.

“But, you know, we had to deal with — she was under the conservatorship, and that was very strange for me to deal with. I got hit with that at the beginning,” he said.

 Throughout their ups and downs, Asghari said he wanted to be “the normal” in Spears’ life.

“I wanted to be the normal part about that life because she never, I don't think she had that,” he shared. 

Spears sparked concern in 2023 when she posted a video of herself dancing with butcher knives which led to a welfare check by authorities.

Though Spears insisted the knives were not real, she later appeared with a bandage on her arm and cuts on her thigh.

Spears later criticized the welfare check, calling it a “joke” and claiming it was “about power for cops.”

Sam Asghari says he kept a 'respectful' relationship with Jamie Spears

Despite the controversy surrounding Britney Spears’ conservatorship, Sam Asghari only had respectful words for Jamie Spears despite his rebuke. 

“I will always have my respect for everybody, and I will always stay respectful, and I always try to understand what really happens and why and how I could help in both sides and how I could just protect someone as well,”  Asghari said.

He acknowledged that he disagreed with some aspects of Jamie’s decisions.

“So my relationship [with Jamie] was always respectful, even though I didn’t agree with some of the stuff — or anything really,” he added, as per Page Six.
