Burns, who hails from Shreveport, Louisiana, where the hunting season runs through January, is just the latest athlete to show support for Trump following his victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

Sam Burns' post sparks mixed reactions

Sam Burns' post left the internet divided, but not because of his seeming support for president-elect Donald Trump. Rather, the reactions were split between those who celebrated Burns’ hunting achievement and others who criticized him for killing the animal.

One person wrote on X, “I hope Sam 3 putts every green this year the sad w****r.”

Another added, “Deer hunting ain't it.”

A comment read, “It would be a sport if the deer had guns.”

One simply wrote, “Disgusting.”

On the other hand, many fans and fellow athletes expressed support for Burns. “That’s a big buck!! Nice Burns!” said one user.

Another noted, "This is why golfers are the best athletes in the world."

According to the Daily Mail, fellow PGA Tour pros Rickie Fowler and Billy Horschel liked the post, while Nick Dunlap, who won his first PGA Tour tournament as an amateur earlier this year, commented, “Where does one get such a hat?”

UFC fighter Jon Jones, US soccer star Christian Pulisic, and several NFL players have also shared public gestures of support for president-elect Donald Trump in recent weeks.

After his knockout win on Saturday, November 16, in New York, Jones thanked Trump, saying, “A big, big thank you to President Donald Trump for being here tonight,” before performing Trump’s signature arm-jerking dance.

Burns, a five-time PGA Tour winner, has built a strong career with 110 cuts made out of 157 starts, along with 36 top-10 finishes. His golfing accomplishments have often put him in the spotlight, but his personal life, including his faith and family with wife Caroline and son Bear, often takes precedence.
