Samuel L Jackson says he's 'not giving up' on wife LaTanya despite doing 'crazy' things in marriage

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Samuel L Jackson, 75, has opened up about his long-lasting relationship with his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, 74.

Despite facing numerous challenges throughout their marriage, the couple has remained strong, with the 'Unbreakable' star acknowledging that their relationship requires a great deal of tolerance and understanding.

In an interview with AARP, Samuel L Jackson discussed how marriage involves working through difficult times and choosing not to give up, even when it might seem easier to walk away.

Samuel candidly spoke about the complexities of marriage, sharing that it requires "a lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up."

The actor admitted to having done "crazy" things during his marriage, and his wife has had her moments too.

Samuel reflected on how they navigated these issues, saying, "I’ve done s**t in my marriage that’s crazy, you know?"

Referencing LaTanya, he added, "She has, too, in her head or whatever in reality, but you got to go, 'Is that a breakup offense?' Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it?"

During their marriage, 'Django Unchained' actor dealt with substance abuse issues.

LaTanya has previously described how the actor was “always isolated, snappy, and irritable” during that period. 

Samuel too has opened up about his substance abuse issues impacting his marriage.

“I was a f*****g drug addict and I was out of my mind a lot of the time, but I had a good reputation. Showed up on time, knew my lines, hit my marks,” Samuel said, as noted by OK Magazine.

LaTanya stood by him, giving him the support he needed, especially after he completed rehab and before his career took off in 1991.

“She gave me the chance to be the man I was supposed to be,” Samuel said of his wife.

Over the years, Samuel L Jackson acknowledged in the latest interview that they’ve grown together, not apart. He revealed that they’ve learned to accept certain things about each other.

"There are certain things that you learn to ignore about people — that she’s learned to ignore about me," Samuel said.

He added, "And one of the things she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’m going to go to work all the time until, you know, it’s time."

The 'Pulp Fiction' actor also touched on aging and staying healthy, explaining, "I pay no attention to that. I mean, I do pay attention to my body because I’ve had things happen to it."

He added that he works to maintain his health, focusing on flexibility and staying upright. "I have to think about those things, and I work on them," Samuel shared.
