Sandra Bullock reveals rare photos of her children as she honors her dad on Father's Day
LOS ANGELES: Actress Sandra Bullock paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father, John Wilson Bullock, on Father's Day Sunday, June 21, sharing a series of rare family photos that offered a glimpse into both her relationship with him and his bond with her children.
The actress, who is known for keeping her family life private, posted several personal images celebrating her father's life and legacy. John, who died in Alabama on September 18, 2018, was a World War II Bronze Star veteran, former Pentagon employee, and renowned classical vocal coach.
Sandra Bullock shares rare family photos with her children and father
Among the photos shared was a throwback image of Sandra posing with her arms around her father at the premiere of 'Forces of Nature' in March 1999. She also included rare pictures of him spending time with her children, Louis and Layla, when they were toddlers.
While Louis' mouth was covered by his hands in one image, she placed a brown heart emoji over Layla's face, maintaining the privacy she has consistently protected for her children. The final image in the tribute was a black-and-white photograph of John during his military days.
Alongside the photos, she reflected on her father's role in her life, writing, “He loved me through my goth period… Loved on the loves of my life… And loved our country at 18….”
She concluded the tribute by adding, “Happy Heavenly Father’s Day, Dad.”
Sandra adopted her son Louis, now 16, in 2010 and later adopted her daughter Layla, now 11, in 2015.
Sandra Bullock reflects on loss and remembers her father's legacy
Sandra has previously spoken about the loss of her father and the emotional impact it had on her life. In December 2018, she reflected on a difficult period when her father and two of her dogs died within weeks of one another.
John passed away from natural causes, while one dog suffered a stroke and another had a heart tumor. During an appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' she said, “Life, I realized, happens whether you schedule it or not.”
Although she initially believed she would be “fine,” she later acknowledged the emotional toll of the losses. Recalling a moment with her children, she shared, “And then a week later I’m in the bathtub crying and the kids are like, ‘Is Mommy okay?’ Everyone is like, ‘Just leave Mommy in the bathtub. She’s going to be fine.’”
The Father's Day tribute followed another personal post shared on Mother’s Day last month. She posted a rare photograph of herself snuggling with Louis and Layla while they were dressed in costume.
Layla wore a colorful tulle dress, while Louis appeared in a magician outfit. The carousel also featured images of her late grandmother and her mother, Helga Meyer, who was an opera singer and voice teacher and died in April 2000 after battling cancer.
In her Mother's Day message, she wrote, “To all the mamas, No matter how you came to be,” followed by,
“Happy Mother’s Day. We are all bound by this honor of a lifetime.”
She also paid tribute to her mother and grandmother, writing, “Mom and Omi, thank you for teaching me. We miss you, Sorry I was such a brat.”
