Johansson revealed to InStyle that her decision to not take selfies with fans in public "really offends a lot of people."

“It doesn’t mean I’m not appreciative, of course, that people are fans or happy to see me. But I always say to people, ‘I’m not working.’ [And that means] I don’t want to be identified as being in this time and place with you. I’m doing my own thing,” he added.

The actress, who will make her directorial debut later this year, prioritizes shielding her children from the spotlight.

She shares daughter Rose, 10, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac and son Cosmo, three, with husband Colin Jost.

Scarlett Johansson stands firm against social media expectations

Additionally, she has resisted the pull of social media, even as pressures mount.

When launching her skincare brand, The Outset, in 2022, Scarlett Johansson considered joining Instagram but ultimately decided against it.

“I got close enough to talk to my therapist about it,” she admitted.

“I was like, ‘I guess this is something I need to do. But it goes against my core values,’” she added.

While she occasionally appears on The Outset’s Instagram, Johansson has yet to create her own account.

She frequently faces pressure from studios, including Universal Pictures, which recently urged her to join Instagram to promote 'Jurassic World Rebirth', according to Us Weekly.

Despite industry expectations, Johansson remains steadfast in her decision to stay off social media.

“Is there a way I could do this and stay true to who I am? It didn’t feel like I could,” she explained.

"The work that I put out there is all based in truth. That’s the key ingredient. So if I was a person who really enjoyed social media, then I could totally get on the bandwagon. But I’m not. And I think the film will do fine,” she said.
