ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A tense moment unfolded on 'CNN NewsNight' on Tuesday, March 24, as Scott Jennings pushed back against Kasie Hunt during a panel discussion, insisting that debate on President Donald Trump's Iran strategy was missing key context.

The discussion came after a clip of Trump saying, "Iran gave US a present related to oil and gas," was played. Kasie Hunt quickly reacted to the president's remarks, which Jennings then pushed back on.

As Hunt pressed on the lack of clarity surrounding Trump’s remark, Jennings directly challenged the premise of the criticism, stressing that those debating the issue were doing so without access to the full picture.

Hunt began by asking, “So, does anyone sitting here have any idea what Trump’s talking about?”

Scott Jennings responded with “No, none of us do because none of us are in the room for these negotiations that are going on.”

“You’re not in the meetings. We’re not privy to these negotiations,” Jennings added.

He doubled down on that point, continuing, “You’re making judgments about what the strategy is without actually knowing what’s happening behind the scenes.”

Scott Jennings and Val Demings spar

The discussion quickly escalated when Jennings clashed with former Democratic Congresswoman Val Demings, who questioned the administration’s clarity and direction.

“And so the American people, nor the troops on the ground, have a clue what the president's mission is, what the way out is. Thirteen people, US soldiers, have already died. We need a clear mission.”

Jennings interjected with a pointed question, “Respectfully, may I ask you a question? Do you believe that Iran has been the world's largest state sponsor of violence for the last nearly five decades?”

Demings responded by shifting back to Trump’s earlier statements, “The president is the one, Scott, who said nine months ago that he obliterated any capability that they had. So what is the mission now? Why are we there now?”

As the exchange grew more heated, Jennings expressed frustration while attempting to outline what he described as the administration’s goals.

“Yelling is not an answer. You're not prepared for this debate. Let me tell you what the objectives are,” he added.

He continued, “Number one, they are the world's largest state supporter and exporter of violence. Number two, they have a ballistic missile program, which we found out this past weekend, can reach most of Europe.”

Demings again cut in, “Why weren't our allies included?”

Jennings fired back, saying, “I see now why you don't know the objectives, because you don't stop talking long enough to listen.”

He finished his point: “Number three, they have a navy that harasses ships.”
