LONDON, ENGLAND: Selena Gomez left viewers cringing during this year’s BAFTA Awards on Sunday, February 16, when she struggled to pronounce the name of the film 'Kneecap', a movie about the controversial Irish rap group.

The actress, who was presenting alongside her 'Emilia Perez' co-star Zoe Saldana, stumbled over the word while announcing the winning film's name in the category of Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.

As Gomez and Saldana opened the envelope to read out the winner's name, the 'Only Murders in the Building' actress paused awkwardly. She then nervously handed over the card to Saldana saying, "I don't know how to say..."

But she managed to gather herself and realize that the word is pronounced exactly how it looks. Gomez then told the audience, "Sorry, Kneecap.."

The film 'Kneecap' follows an Irish rap group known for their politically charged and controversial lyrics, which frequently criticize the British Empire, the monarchy, and the Conservative party.

The film, which has sparked significant debate, won over other nominees, including Dev Patel's 'Monkey Man'.

On a lighter note, Selena Gomez made a stunning appearance at the BAFTAs 2025, wearing a custom Schiaparelli gown. The sparkling silver bodice and black velvet details paired beautifully with her Tiffany & Co jewelry, including an impressive 10-carat diamond ring.
