LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selma Blair is sharing her experience of raising her son while living with multiple sclerosis.

The 'Legally Blonde' actress, 52, spoke about how her diagnosis has affected her journey as a single mother to her 13-year-old son, Arthur.



 

Selma Blair says fatigue has been a major struggle with multiple sclerosis

Selma Blair also discussed her efforts to raise awareness about the disease and how she manages daily challenges while continuing her career.

"I think since I had him I’d been afflicted with MS, and I didn’t know [because] I was diagnosed later," Blair told Today.

"My fatigue was always the main issue and as any parent knows, especially a single parent, there’s no room for extra fatigue," Blair added.

The 'Cruel Intentions' star explained that she has always sought advice and support from others to help navigate parenting challenges while dealing with her condition.

"I had to ask advice for everything," Blair said, adding that she is now "in a good spot."

Selma Blair opens up on her son Arthur growing up

Selma Blair revealed that her son, who turned 13 in July 2024, is becoming more independent.

"He’s so much older now and, like most teenagers, doesn’t want to be with me as much," she said.

According to the Mayo Clinic, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that damages the protective covering of nerves. It can lead to symptoms such as numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes, and other issues.

There is currently no cure and treatment focuses on managing symptoms and slowing disease progression.

Selma Blair returns to acting despite MS diagnosis

Selma Blair, who publicly announced her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018, is making a return to acting with three upcoming films.

According to Variety, she will star in the Israel-Hamas war drama 'Stay Forte' alongside Judd Hirsch and work on 'There There', a project by brothers Mark and Michael Polish.

She is also set to appear in the supernatural thriller 'Silent' directed by Doron and Yoaz Paz.

Blair hinted at her return to work to the outlet in November, saying, "I started feeling really better this last year and I’m back at work and doing things so I will have things to announce."
