WASHINGTON, DC: California Senator Alex Padilla broke down in tears while recounting his dramatic detention at a recent ICE-related press conference featuring DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

Padilla's emotional speech on Tuesday, June 17, came just days after viral footage surfaced from the June 12 event in Los Angeles, where the senator was seen interrupting Noem to demand answers about ongoing ICE raids in the city.

As he moved toward the front of the room, security stepped in, ultimately forcing Padilla to the ground and handcuffing him, an incident that has since sparked fierce debate.

Padilla stated, “I was compelled, both as a senator and as an American, to speak up, but before I could even get out my question, I was physically and aggressively forced out of the room, even as I repeatedly announced I was a United States Senator."

His voice trembled as he continued, “I was forced to the ground, first on my knees and then flat on my chest."

The California senator added, “And as I was handcuffed and marched down a hallway repeatedly asking, Why am I being detained? Not once did they tell me why? I pray you never have a moment like this.”

“If that is what the administration is willing to do to a United States senator for having the authority to simply ask a question, imagine what they'll do to any American who dares to speak up,” he questioned.

Alex Padilla called out for his 'fake crying routine' as he gets emotional on Senate floor

After his emotional speech on the Senate floor, Senator Alex Padilla faced sharp criticism from conservative voices online, with many accusing him of putting on a "fake crying routine."

Conservative outlet The Blaze dismissed his tearful delivery, writing, "Democrat Senator Alex Padilla is doing a fake crying routine on the floor," as per the Daily Mail.

Similarly, Townhall took aim at the senator’s account, stating, "'Alex Padilla fake cries while explaining how law enforcement protected DHS Secretary Noem from a no-name Senator interrupting her press conference."

Right-wing influencer Johnny MAGA also weighed in, posting, "Senator Padilla' is literally crying on the floor right now after playing the victim in the Los Angeles DHS press conference incident, where he pushed Secret Service and charged the Secretary. So pathetic."

In the wake of the controversy, Padilla has reportedly been assigned a security detail following his brief detainment by Secret Service agents at the event.
