WASHINGTON, DC: Family members of the 13 US soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 2021 have blasted President Joe Biden after he claimed during the first Presidential debate that no American troops died overseas in his regime.

Biden and Donald Trump debated against each other on Thursday, June 27. During the debate, the incumbent president said about his predecessor, “When he was president, they were still killing people in Afghanistan. And he didn’t do anything about that.”

Joe Biden accused Donald Trump of making the US unsafe

He continued, “When he was president, we were still finding ourselves in a position where you had a notion that we were this safe country."

“The truth is, I'm the only president this century, that doesn't have any - this decade - that doesn't have any troops dying anywhere in the world, like he did," claimed the 46th commander-in-chief. He seemingly forgot about the death of 13 US soldiers in Kabul in 2021 when Hamid Karzai International Airport's Abbey Gate was attacked by ISIS-K during the evacuation of Afghanistan.

His remark hurt the Gold Star families who lost their loved ones in the violent attacks on US troops in January 2021.

The father of the late Marine Cpl Jared Schmitz, Mark Schmitz, told The New York Post, “My phone blew up for probably 20 minutes after that came through, and everybody was just in utter shock. And my poor kids were in the next room – let’s just say I ultimately ended up having to apologize to them for my language.”

“I was beyond ticked off, disrespected. That’s all we’ve ever gotten out of this president,” he shared.

Steve Nikoui, who lost her son Marine Lance Cpl Kareem Nikoui, said, “I did see that, and I was just as shocked as anyone else, but I wasn’t surprised. I’m glad that the rest of America is able to see what we’ve been dealing with for the last three years.”

“What he did last night was he basically refused to honor the service and sacrifice of the 13 servicemen and women that were killed at the Abbey gate directly – were killed because of his incompetence – and he refuses, since that’s happened, to even recognize them,” Nikoui added.

Christy Shamblin, who lost her daughter-in-law Nicole Gee in Kabul, stated, “It’s always an excuse, but the reality is that these 13 died, and many more were injured, and 180 Afghans died at that moment. This was supposed to be a peacekeeping mission and evacuation. Our kids weren’t there at war, and he couldn’t even bring them home – couldn’t get that right.”

“God forbid we end up in another war, because that’s exactly where we’re heading, and he’ll deny all that, too. He’ll deny it and place blame on somebody else again, too. That’s just what they do – they take no responsibility,” she asserted.

Internent reacts to Joe Biden's remark during first presidential debate

People online have also thrashed Biden with a reader commenting below The Post article, “No US military died under Joe's watch. Nope. Not Joe's fault, so they don't count. If they had been shot by Republican's, then Joe would remember them. Had to cut part of this explaining how many died and where. Rejected.”

The second reader commented, “He has no respect for anyone unless it’s attached to a large bag of money.”

The third one shared, “Dead Man Walking Biden simply does not care about you, me or your children. He and Jill were second fiddle to Obama and Michelle for 8 years. In his and her mind they are looking forward to another four years.”

The fourth one stated, “Hope son Beau whispers to Joe's conscience to step aside and that he and Jill will apologize to the service member's families he dishonored.  Honor your son's service by acknowledging correctly the others who lost their lives under your watch.”

“Biden was aghast when Trump told him during the debate, ‘You owe me an apology.’ I suggest the Gold Star Families do the same. Demand an apology through print media, billboards, cardboard signs outside his mega fundraisers.  IF he caves, Biden's apology will be hollow, but by God, demand he issue one. It's about time he own this tragedy!” the fifth one added.

Another remarked, "Can the voters in this country actually wise up to put this senile person out of our misery. I have my doubts as they will vote D no matter what."
