Alexis Ohanian on family's history with cancer
In his Instagram update on his surgery, Alexis Ohanian wrote, "After tracking some suspicious nodules on my thyroid for the last 4 years, I recently had half of it surgically removed."
He explained that the nodules had been growing and were deemed highly likely to become cancerous, prompting his decision for surgery.
Ohanian candidly reflected on his family's history with cancer, sharing that his mother died from brain cancer after battling breast cancer at a similar age.
"I hate cancer," he said, according to Daily Mail.
After the surgery went smoothly, Ohanian wrote, "I’m extra grateful this Thanksgiving because I got the call this morning confirming that the half of my thyroid that was removed was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous."
Alexis Ohanian's life after surgery
Despite the temporary setback of missing his weightlifting routine, Alexis Ohanian expressed optimism, joking about getting back to the gym soon.
He also celebrated life by taking his daughters to Disney World during his recovery.
"Life is wonderful," he added, ending the post with a reminder to other fathers, "To my fellow dads — make those doctor’s appointments. Especially if y’all are dads. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone."

Alexis Ohanian's Lyme Disease diagnosis
In addition to his thyroid surgery, Alexis Ohanian revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), Ohanian said he was asymptomatic but learned about the condition after undergoing extensive medical tests.
"Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have Lyme disease. Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat," he wrote.
Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease. Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone.

He was surprised by the diagnosis given his limited exposure to typical Lyme-prone regions as he wrote, "I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast this was quite a surprise."
Emphasizing his proactive approach, Ohanian added, "Can't keep me down, tick!" alongside a playful reference to the The Tick cartoon character.
Anyway, gonna grab some antibiotics — can't keep me down, tick! pic.twitter.com/TOge6uRfSX

While sharing his experiences, he stressed the importance of consulting professionals for health advice.
"Please talk to a doctor! Do not listen to me for any health advice!" Ohanian noted.
