WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump and New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani met for the first time at the Oval Office, and the meeting immediately sparked buzz. Their discussion, the goals they found in common, and Trump’s unexpected praise for Mamdani quickly became the focus of attention.

Now, Seth Meyers has joined in with his own take on Trump and Mamdani’s official meeting. The 'Late Night' host conveyed his take on Trump’s friendly tone to Mamdani.

“That is the flirtiest I’ve ever heard anyone say, ‘You can call me a fascist,’” Meyers joked, still in awe, how anyone could agree the word “fascist” so casually.

Seth Meyers teases Donald Trump over Zohran Mamdani meeting

The 'late-night' host joked that Trump’s gesture was soft, saying, “He looks like a five-year-old meeting Mickey Mouse.” It was a sharp contrast to Trump’s past comments, where he had labeled Mamdani a “communist” and a “total nutjob,” yet seemed captivated by him during the meeting.

“I’ve never seen Trump this smitten before,” Meyers said, pointing out how unusual it was to see the president so taken with someone. He said, “This is a reminder: he doesn’t work with a single cool person!"

"He is surrounded by so many charmless goons that the first time he got to hang out with someone that had a little charisma, he swooned like he was on a date with the varsity quarterback.” Meyers joked that anyone in Trump’s position might feel the same spark.

“You’d have stars in your eyes too if you spent every day of your life with joyless gargoyles like Stephen Miller and JD Vance, and then you met a 34-year-old social media star who rapped in a halal cart and once appeared in an actual Disney movie,” he said.

Weeks after Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor, various wealthy interest groups have begun to mobilize against the 33-year-old state assemblyman. He also highlighted Trump’s surprisingly playful attitude. “That is the flirtiest I’ve ever heard anyone say, ‘You can call me a fascist,’” Meyers joked.

The comedian also highlighted Trump's punchline, “You can call me a fascist, you can call me, I’ll be whatever you want me to be!”

“Of course, it won’t be remotely surprising if Trump changes his tune,” he said. “We’ve seen it happen many times before. But the one takeaway that will last is that all the Maga scare tactics evaporated."

"The right thought meeting Trump would be Zohran’s worst nightmare, but it turns out meeting Zohran was Trump’s dream come true," he concluded.

The President and New York City mayor-elect surprised many with how smoothly their first Oval Office meeting went. They met on Friday, November 21, and quickly found areas where their priorities match.

“We had a meeting today that actually surprised me. He wants to see no crime. He wants to see housing being built. He wants to see rents coming down. All things that I agree with," Trump said.

He noted that their methods may differ, but the goals match. “One of the things I really gleaned very, very much today, he’d like to see them come down ideally by building a lot of additional housing. That’s the ultimate way... he agrees with that and so do I.”

Trump said the discussion challenged what he usually reads about Mamdani. “If I read the newspapers and the stories, I don’t hear that. But I heard him say it today and I think that’s a very positive step... I expect to be helping him, not hurting him. I want New York City to be great. I love New York City. It’s where I come from.”

Mamdani summed it up simply. “It was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love, which is New York City, and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers,” he said.
